Good for you and you've got my support. As far as I'm concerned, the only people who have the right to complain are the ladies. The rest can take a flying leap.

I am sure the current British, American and World women's champions would all take issue with you on this. The women's world championship organised by FIDE will take place this March.
I do believe (though I will look like an a** if wrong) that Judit Polgar doesn't compete in women's only tournaments precicly because she finds it discriminating?

Then again, thats probably just hearsay based on the actions of her sister Susan (organizing an annual girls-only tournaments)

Doh, who wants to google for me? =)

Edit: An excerpt from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judit_Polgar):
Judit has always preferred men's events, making it clear from the beginning that she wants to become the true World Champion of Chess.

Meet Jovanka my friend played her a number of years ago in the surrey chess league when she was only about 12.

Pasted from a december press release from The British Chess Federation: http://www.bcf.org.uk/national/world-champs-challenge_dec05.htm

England’s Jovanka Houska is ambitious and ready to mount a serious challenge for the Women’s World Chess Championship in 2006. With an impressive and improving record, Jovanka is certain that with some much needed sponsorship support, she can prepare a serious world title challenge. Given the resources, Jovanka will undertake a first class preparation programme including top-flight training from Grandmaster, John Emms.

Jovanka, despite the east European sounding name, was born in South London. She is one of the few English chess professionals around these days and proudly boasts a WGM (International Woman’s Grand Master title), is qualified at male International Master level and has aspirations to become England’s first proper female Grandmaster.

Jovanka says: ‘My first achievement that I was really proud of was representing England in the World girl’s Championship under 10. I was also European Under 20 Girl’s Champion in 2000, which I think is probably my greatest achievement.’ Jovanka also adds: ‘This year I participated in the European Individual Championship for Women in Moldova. I finished in the top ten and earned the right to play in the World Championships.’

If this tournament is sexism then the all dutch tourament must be discrimination. Strange enough I haven’t heard anyone complain about it...

her sister is the reigning women's world champion. As I said above the system of women's championships is well established with national, european and world titles, the world title is organised by FIDE are you saying this is without merit?

Well I will make my point in one hit instead of a fragmented trail of narrow pieces of information. Judit supported her sister in one of her women's world championship victories acting as her second (so she in no way looks down on the women's division). Women's chess is very well established with national and international and world title championships. If FIDE organsie a women's championship there is no reason why RHP can't have one.

I think the idea behind women's championships was to make chess more attractive to women because there are so few female players. Now that's an honourable goal, but I think that could be reached by other means, and I don't know whether women's championships actually have raised the number of female players (I don't know about any statistics about this). I don't blame professional female players who play in tournaments for women - from all I have heard, it's quite hard to make a living from playing chess, so if I were a professional player, I might grab such opportunities as well. But I still don't like the system.

Eaxctly why can't the women have a title they can aspire to here at rhp, it doesn't take anything away from any male player and at the same time allows a genuine titled championship. I think Arrakis has started something that may turn into an annual championship, and why not.

Exactly why should women have a special title only available to women? There are no special championships for any other groups either.

What's the difference? We have banded tournaments, tournaments for the Dutch, tournaments where you win a Metalhead CD or a Twin Peaks DVD. If Arrakis wants to sponsor a tournament for women and if women want to play in it the guys should grow up and let 'em play. I'm as much in favor of busting Arrakis' stones as anybody else, but the joke's not really funny anymore, if it ever was.
