No the point is why can't they, not why should they, the reason they should is that Arrakis has kindly coughed up the dough for it, if you had any point it may have been that redhotpawn were paying for it out of subs collected mainly from guys (although I have to say that it would be pretty lame and mean to make this point). Have you complained To FIDE that they have a world women's championship?

If Arrakis wants to sponsor a tournament for women and if women want to play in it the guys should grow up and let 'em play. I'm as much in favor of busting Arrakis' stones as anybody else, but the joke's not really funny anymore, if it ever was.
Quoting myself: "I don't see a point in having a tournament just for women, and I wouldn't want to participate even if I wanted to join another tournament. But it seems that some women like the concept, so why not let them have their fun?" (from the thread in the Tournaments Forum)

But to my knowledge, arrakis' tournament is not a championship.

No, I haven't. There are many things I don't agree with, but don't care about enough to complain.

Why are you so against the women having their own championship? does it somehow hurt your male ego? do you feel envious that perhaps (and I use the word perhaps carefully because although I am unsure of the number and ratings of females on the site but Skeeter is capable of winning a fully open championship) a women will become a champion and is at a level that on a good day you think you could beat (sad if this is the reason). If neither of the above what is it? If you couldn't bring yourself to congradulate a female champion why could you not just ignore it but leave them to enjoy it.

I like the idea of a left-hand versus right-handed tournament or over-45s vs under 45s. The only problem is keeping people honest.

How about atheists vs theists?

This would clearly determine whether God exists.

That still doesn't change anything! there is no reason why the women cannot have their own championship, just like FIDE. Although it does make me feel better that at least you are not saying what you are out of jealiousy

No I checked she is female (I didn't look up her skirt I looked at her past postings and found angie saying 'she' (referring to her) bought me an ice cream. Although I don't believe it adds any weight to the arguement it certainly dismisses all the nasty reasons why someone (a guy) would object
