Playing Blitz is like drinking pop or eating candy. You get that RUSH, but a constant diet of Blitz can't be good on your overall Chess Health.
I use it to just relax and hang out with a group of friends and play everyone in a short amount of time.
I find playing blitz allows me to experiment with new openings that I haven't studied enough/tried on slower games.
I'm the reverse, if allowed I'll play all my main rep openings as I know
roughly what I'm doing and it saves time.
I leave all the experiementing up to the other guy.
I reckon an RHP game or games is a good way to get into a new opening.
Take your time, consult your opening book. Six games, three games with
either colour should give you the feel for what is going on especially if it
is an opening variation. (Advance French/Caro Kann - Morra Gambit, Poison
Pawn variation of the Najdorf etc.)
In blitz it's all about moving fast and not leaving anything unprotected
whilst looking to see what the other lad has left unprotected.
If nothing doing in that department then point things at their King.
(actually that is how I play in normal chess.)
