TV lineups are guided by ratings. Chess wouldn't get the ratings therefore it wouldn't get the coverage. Simple as that.
I thought you kiwis were bright. Ofcousre it would get more TV coverage, ofcourse it would get more sponsorship and its not bowing to any rules its adhering to rules that are observed by hundreds of sports already in the olympics, so where is your argument ...Does everybody at RHP just talk emotionally without any real thought into what they are saying....
It wouldn't gain any more sponsorship. The Olympics as a whole have sponsers. You can't have sponsers for individual sporting events at the olympics as far as I know.
To become an olympic event FIDE would have to comply with hundreds of rules and regulations. Yes, all other olympic events comply to these. However they've had years to get organized as these rules were slowly brought into place. What place does drug testing have in chess? There are no mental steroids. But according to IOC rules excess (never defined an exact amount) of caffeine is illegal. Can you imagine chess without caffeine?
Unlike some people here I think about my posts before I hit that oh so tempting button. Can you say the same?
Ive told you millions of times dont exaggerate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are not hundreds of rules tahat chess has to comply too,FIDE is is already recognised by the IOC. Again are you speaking for all chess players. If you have a caffeine addiction that is your problem. You will probably never be tested in your life if drug testing was introduced.
Again your argument it would not be on TV is ridiculous.
I think you have a small vision and you are scared of change. Most human beings are, so dont feel too bad.
Things will change with or without your consent NZ.
The white Knight has spoken, Working for the Light .... working for things that are right...........
The Fischer v Spassky match recieved one of the highest audiences at that time ever on terestial television. Non chess players are and were fascinated by the game of chess.
Its not about Die-hard chess players, my argument has been what is a sport and you chess idiots do not recognise you are playing one of the best sports around.
I have witnessed people who came to watch a football match ,the match was cancelled and cycling was put on instead. These football fans were fascinated as they had never seen a cycling race before. And after they all said it was some of the best sporting TV they had ever seen.
I am being genuine here. It is only because of what they had been exposed too before that they made all their assumptions on.
New Zealand and Australia play rugby the two countries stop!!! A war could brake out and nobody would care apart from the score of the rugby match. Again people have literally been brainwashed to follow Rugby in your part of the world.
Now do you see NZ..... take some time ....Breath out.......

Apart from the matter Xanthos addressed, there are drugs that improve the efficiency of cognitive processes, caffeine is one of them; it improves impulses in the brain and also the recall of memories (very useful to chess, one mite say)
As for Osse if you always take no for an answer in life nothing would ever change or be achieved. Your argument for drug testing does not stand up either, aprt from the fact there is no known drug that could improve cognotive thinking or your chess .What is the problem, you just have to get your head around it. it seems likely that u have another account on rhp that u play games with and u set this one up to irritate ppl in the forums. lame...
o, and 'the white knight has spoken'?? u appear to have clinical 'head up ur own a**'
quermyte even though you think look like a monkey why do you think like one.
So caffeine now makes you a better chess player are you serious..
and these other accounts your talking about I have no idea what your saying????? Ive just started a couple of games because I was being accused of using this firum and not playing chess......
I think you all have issues you need to resolve and should stop trying to put them on me.....
What is sport?
Chess is a sport amongst sports!!!
The white knight is always right and that is the hardest bullet to bite.........
the fact is that caffeine does help, not in any huge grandmaster-making way but the effect is there. your argument is pure speculation - it seems absurd that coffee cd improve ur chess so u dismiss the possibility. it is a mental stimulant that enhances processes in the brain that are related to chess ability.
im sorry uv had a bad reception here, we js dont respond well to unprovoked arrogance or rudeness
also, my name's Ouermyhte, not Quermyte 🙂
The Olympic games are for athletic competition. Chess can tire players, and physical conditions can improve performance, but chess is not athletics.
Certainly Chess is recognized as a sport, even in the United States, where most people equate sports with athletics. Why else would the December 20, 2004 issue of Sports Illustrated have an article about Garry Kasparov?

Say chess becomes part of the Olympics, you are in charge of a TV station and have a choice, you can show the chess or the swimming. Which would give you the largest audience? The swimming would easily. If chess is part of the olympics then there are too many other sports going on that would be televised over chess.
I love playing chess, I personally don't view it as a sport (my school sort of did). But you have to realise most people don't feel the same way about chess as people do who play it.
I haven't been brainwashed to watch anything. Yes, I watch rugby. But I also watch soccer, gridiron, baseball and occasionally cricket. I'm a sports fan.
I find it quite amusing you telling to me calm down. All of my posts have been civil and, to my eye, well structured. I haven't used hundreds of exclamation marks, I don't remember using any. I haven't insulted you or your country. And most of all I've read what you wrote and responded to it rather than just blathering on in a repetitive manner.
We know that caffeine and nicotine enhance brainpower from own experience and by testing. It has been documented shown to improve short term memory many times. Whoever denies it is ignorant of the research literature. Or forgot it 'cause he doesn't drink tea, hehe.
Chess could be presented in a dramatic NFL style way with great graphics and music and short bio's as they do for obscure sports, like fencing at the Olympics. Chess could be huge if it were marketed right. Who wants to try? Imagine slow-motion replay of Kramnik moving his pawns in the endgame vs. Leko. Gripping expressions of triumph and resignation. Rivetting. "More at eleven!" Live postgame interviews, locker room moments. Cheerleaders even.

my post a few days ago was obviously considered too strong. As rhp did not post it.
Lazycuban you forget you have a worldseries in baseball abd only one country participates. I wonder if kiwi xanthos or whatever his name is can see the irony in that. Your nicotene and cofee argument is still stupid where are the test results that it impprooves chess or your football skills or anything. Too much cafeine is bad too much alcohol is bad too much nicotine is bad none of these will make you play better chess or better anything only idiots cant see this point...

I could list all the spelling mistakes in your latest post but as there are so many I'll just say this. You are wasting your time posting. You don't have a real argument, you don't know how to structure a sentence or use capital letters or spell. No one is listening to you.
Your self-important finish to your posts just makes people laugh at you.
