I think it's OK to hang foreigners. There's no shortage of them.
As for the very occassional English player caught cheating (I can recall only one, English Tal, and he was probably half Latvian). They are obviously inherently honest, but sometimes forget that the World looks up to them and resort to using the same underhand tactics that are so commonly d ...[text shortened]... this would involve is at least equivalent to death by hanging for one with no social standing.

I am really quite sad about this, I am not going to defend nor am I going to jump to slate ET.
I can only say that when I was with the friendlies I had many PMs with ET abuot engine users,why they do it etc etc, he always bitterly spoke of engine users, particularly one in particular, (now banned so no accusations here) I honestly believed ET to be genuine and I have to think back to when ET was planning to leave the site due to the engine users here ... if ET is guilty (again I am not saying he is or is not as it is not for me to say) then I would suspect it was out of frustration of "if you cant beat them join them".
He was a good guy, he may well be a cheat but he was and probably still is a good guy who slipped up and didnt resist the temptation that many others havent and who many others in the future wont.

So I shall say again... I am neither defending nor going against ET, just stating my suprise....
I am astonished! I had ET as a genuine player as he did make mistakes and lose games, he appeared knowledgable and was a regular intelligent forum poster.
I can only assume that he is a strong player who simply resorted to engine use to win the critical tournaments. It would be interesting to hear reliable evidence of when he started using an engine but I guess we never will.
In my opinion he is a 2100 - 2200 player without an engine so it is a pity he went this way.
