Both moves are playable ofcourse. o-o-o is a provocative move challenging white to launch an early attack on the black king. Black will have its chances if it can see off the attack. I wouldn't mind trying it against any player on this site but IronMan. Ngf6 is the natural move in this position and is more familiar to me. o-o-o!? is unknown teritory!
I'd like to play 0-0-0 here. It's provocative in that white can launch an attack. But, it might be more dangerous to castle kingside with the current presence of white's pieces there.
When i play the Caro Kann, I tend to castle queenside myself because of the fact that White's pawn is over-extended.

I guess so.

It will be very interesting to see where and *if* white decides to attack.

IM has played 15. Nxf6. Is there any playable alternative to 15 ...Nxf6?

gxf6 has been played, and Qxf6 isn't impossible, but Nxf6 looks the most natural move.
here's a Petrosian game where he plays gxf6 in this position, but the future world champion ends up losing

Two known moves for black in this position ...Nxf6 and gxf6. The former will lead to a quick draw with best play. I would go for the Morozevich-like gxf6...makes for a more interesting and open game with chances for both sides. But i guess ur choice will be Nxf6 which is ofcourse logical...maybe u would like to go for the draw (which is not easy to get against IronMan31) or else u wouldn't have played the Caro Kann in the first place.
Originally posted by schakuhrBoth moves are playable. gxf6 looks like it results in a much more tactical game, where a lot more can happen. Nxf6 is a pretty safe draw.
But then our pawn position is flawed, and we probably only can castle queenside. do Nxf6
The question is... do we want to take him on and go for the win, bearing in mind that the stats are against us at this point, or take a draw in this game and have another go at him using a better, more adventurous opening, where we'll have better chances of a win.
