What did black think he was up to on the queens side.
You can't do that in KGA and expect to hang around for more than a dozen moves.
And by the way, nothing (not even Fishers defense) is any bloody good against the KG because it is such an awesome opening.
Devastating attack & very quick result. Serves black right for being rather timid in style.Game 2365533
Originally posted by cludiAh, forgot to mention that, oddly enough I've used that variation 😛.
Why not 4.Bc4?
Take a look at this game - Game 1885206
Interesting stuff, right?
Originally posted by Sicilian SmaugI was just kidding around, but it is a great opening 🙂.
Thank you, but I neither like or dislike it as I've never played it.
I doubt I'll take it on full time as I've spent too much time with the Ruy Lopez. But will be nice just to know it and without the pressure of them being rated games.
Originally posted by Dragon FireIt seems that a lot of the people that have entered can't seem to beat it and want some practice against it. More proof that the King's Gambit is a great opening. And if that wasn't proof enough check out Spassky's record with the King's Gambit.
52 entrants already and not 24 hours gone by yet!

Edit: and looking at the list of entrants so far, I have beaten at least 6 of them with KGA and lost to none of them with it!
Originally posted by Dragon FireHe never lost with it, chessgames.com shows his only loss whie using it was in a simul. His record there is (W-L-D) 18-1(the simul, so doesn't count)-13.

Originally posted by Dragon FireI don't think I've played anybody that's entered and used the KG 🙁. The only one I ever remember playing (after a quick glance) is Trevor.

How to mate (a reasonable player rated above 1600) black in KGA in 12 moves
Game 2364091
No one tell me the KGA is bad for white

For 3.Bc4
Kind of hard, because I only know of two RHPers that use it. Me and Bedlam, Bedlam's very strong with it though and his games should be good to check out. BTW: Mainline 3.Bc4 runs 3...Nf6 4.Nc3 c6 5.Bb3 (otherwise 5...Nxe4! 6.Nxe4 d5 forks the bishop and knight) 5...d5 6.exd5 exd5
For 3.Nf3
and Dragonfire, isn't the Falkber countergambit busted anyway?
Originally posted by cmsMasterI think the King's Gambit will always be one of the top ten best openings for White. If you lose with the King's Gambit, it's your fault, because the lines you were trying to play were too sharp for your abilities. baHahHahAahaHaha!
It's not popular anymore at the top levels of chess, but it's very popular at club level. It was in the 19th and early 20th century, it's decrease in popularity and the top-level has to do with a few things. 1.It's over analyzed to death. 2.Fischer hurt it's comeback because Spassky beat him with it and 3.A lot of people think gambits are too risky. Ab again: Fischer was wrong! 😛
