DF: Perhaps you would be kind enough to post in this thread those rated 1500 who have been banned. Of course if your insinuation is merely a baseless allegation and [b]there are not any players at this level that have actually been banned for engine use perhaps you would be kind enough to PM me, Korch and others with whom you disagree on his point the evidence.

And about "below 1500" cheating he have agreed that players below 1500 may cheat. Your disagreement is about importance if this issue.
Originally posted by KorchSince his statement that not one player below 1500 has been banned was meant to support his initial position that cheating by under 1500s was unimportant, I'd say its incorrectness was quite relevant to the discussion.

However, since both DF and !~TONY~! have clarified and/or modified their initial positions, the point is moot.

His forum posts were adequate for a banning in the absense of any further proof so we don't actually know it was engine assistance rather than outside assistance.

Of course a hithertoo unknown patzer rated 1100 can start using an engine and he will rise up through a whole series of grades cheating until he reaches the top echelons and, of course, it would be nice to spot such players and stop them early. By the time someone of 1100 has reached 1500 by beating plenty of players graded 1600+ his activities will hopefully have been noticed, reported and he will be banned. Such obvious cheating is hopefully easy to spot.
When I talk about 1500 players I am referring to players static at that level for some time rather than players showing sudden rises because they are playing at 2300.

It might be easy to spot, but people are still getting away with it including one user I reported to the Mods a couple of months ago. I also gave them analysis showing his match ups with Fritz's first 3 choices jumped 30% in a month (and that was from games he had won previously). "He's" still playing though.

I'm sure there are others.
As I recall User 318460 admitted in this forum without any prompting that he used an engine. He was banned shortly afterwards. He actually seemed to be eager to get banned.

Could you explain how it is possible to be consistently using an engine and only be rated 1300 (which lets face it is a pretty lower grade - about ECF 5 I believe). At that level you are losing to very modest players and playing way below the standard I would attribute to engines (although I am only familiar with Rybka and Fritz).
I do remember User 318460 admitting in the forums that he used an engine so that was an easy banning but why even look at some of the others?
User 336664 was obviously caught fairly early but he had played no one of consequence and his p rating wasn't unusually high.
User 262587 and User 253894 were obvious targets to look at, a sudden rise after a previous plateau and most losses due to time outs. They are in the category I suggest be looked at as a matter of course.
None of the other ring a bell with me.

Who says it has to take a long time to investigate and ban cheats?
I'm sure cheating happens at all levels. They may rise to the top or may settle at a mid level and use engines only to get out of a bad position. I've sworn to myself that it has happened a few times against me, but at the same time have to face it that I may have simply been beaten.
Overall cheats at any level affect me. I rarely see the same player very often and the higher ups I don't see at all. If you see something strange like an abnormal history chart, report it and move on. For those who think that the world is out to get them and the cheaters or whoever else is ruining their game, you might want to take up another hobby and chill. Some of the posts in this thread are full of paranoia and are quite comical to read. If you think I'm talking about one of your posts, I probably am. 😀
