I understand that you want to make Latvian Gambit more popular, but there are other threads for that.
Well said Korchie!!
Just out of interest Korch have you played 1.e4 e5 Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 much as Black or do you always play the Latvian?
What would you play or would it depend on circumstances?

But when I`m playing 1...e5 and when I`m not playing Latvian or Philidor then after 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 I` choose 3....Be7 (Hungarian defence).

I have in the past mostly played 3...Nf6, but I am considering changing to 3...Bc5. It's true that 3...Nf6 is generally more aggressive and interesting. However, it's still open to doubt whether black gets enough for the pawn after the 'duffer's move' (Tarrasch) 4.Ng5. Short clearly thinks not and has tried to rehabilitate the line 4...d5 5.exd5 Na5 6.Bb5+ c6 7.dxc6 bxc6 8.Qf3!? (see his game against Hebden, Liverpool 2006). I've tried 6...Bd7!? on a number of occasions both OTB and on this site. Again black gets some compensation for the pawn, but whether it's really enough isn't clear.
I know I've said this before, but at the risk of repeating myself, Traxler (Wilkes-Barre) fans should be aware that their favourite opening simply isn't sound. I used to play it myself a long time ago but had to admit reality. Nothing I've seen since has changed my view. In fact you can rest assured that if the Traxler really were sound, it would almost certainly feature at higher levels, where most players have the most up-to-date hard and software to analyse such a tactical opening almost to death.
As regards 3...Bc5 most white players nowadays play 4.c3 and 5.d3, which tends eventually to lead to positions similar to closed Spanish (Ruy Lopez). Of course, there's always the Evans Gambit, but it isn't too dangerous if black's adequately prepared.
I stand by my belief the the Traxler is sound. If you want a game send one over and I'll do my best to prove it to you. No modern analysis has been presented that hasn't been 're-refuted' soon after... it's something like the Latvian gambit (though I must admit I don't play the latvian 😛).
If you want a game send one over... I assure you you'll regret it 🙂.
edit- holy cow your rating is high 😛. Oh well I still stand by what I said......
I'm dead 🙂.
Originally posted by ih8sensAs you say, it's something like the Latvian, i.e. not quite kosher. I like to restrict my game-load so don't take on extra challenge games, but I will repeat the challenge I made in the Latvian thread. I normally play King's Gambit (or sometimes Vienna), but if anyone I play in clan league/challenge or a tournament game wants to play the black side of the Latvian or Traxler against me, I will accept the challenge. I said I would expect to score at least 90% against the Latvian. I would expect a similar score agaist the Traxler.

I could only find the single game but have you played it more often and with what sort of result.
Originally posted by Dragon FireTo be honest I'd forgotten I'd played that game. I have in the past tried to make 5...b5 work as a separate line from 5...Nd4; I think with 6...h6. I must have come to the conclusion that 6...h6 is now inadequate so transposed back with 6...Nd4, which seems just about playable for black.
