well depends on the enging but yes... something to do with the depth of moves they calculate

I thought zugzwang was a state and not a move. It is a german word, roughly translated as "compulsion to move" ie. you have to move but you don't want to because if you do you get screwed.

An example:


After the forced 1. ... Kd6 2. Bg3+ Kc6, white plays 3. Bf4 or 3. Bh2 and black is in zugzwang. Any move he makes results in the loss of material.

it's mis-spelling..
which I think is more of an english way of spelling it..
kinda like many ppl misspronouce linux in england
they forget ita a word from Finland.. and pronouce it Line-nucks
but like i say its a word from finland and should be pronouced lin-nucks

Zugzwang is the incorrect spelling.. but also well know spelling.. As i say I think its to help people who speak english to pronouce it correctly..

I don't see why computers would not understand zugzwang...I mean, Fritz would easily finish off the Bishop ending shown earlier. Could you give an example of a computer not using zugzwang properly?
