@sonhouse saidVows not the worth of a person. Do you ignore words in every document you read to get the meaning out of it to make say and mean what you want?
@KellyJay
It is certainly not my imagination the words say a man is worth 50 shekels and a woman 30.
How could you ever think a god would say that?
@sonhouse saidThe text is the text before you start looking for some meaning you should at least take into account every word in the text you are quoting and you are leaving out a key word for context, even after it is pointed out to you.
@KellyJay
Vows? You really think people are supposed to just ignore such words and accept them as vows?
@KellyJay
This is the price of redemption, so it comes down to money whether one is worthy of the benediction of your lord:
"1The Lord said to Moses, 2“Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. If anyone makes a special vow to dedicate someone to the Lord by paying the value of that person, 3here is the scale of values to be used. A man between the ages of twenty and sixty is valued at fifty shekels of silver, as measured by the sanctuary shekel. 4A woman of that age is valued at thirty shekels of silver. 5A boy between the ages of five and twenty is valued at twenty shekels of silver; a girl of that age is valued at ten shekels of silver. 6A boy between the ages of one month and five years is valued at five shekels of silver; a girl of that age is valued at three shekels of silver. 7A man older than sixty is valued at fifteen shekels of silver; a woman of that age is valued at ten shekels of silver. 8If you desire to make such a vow but cannot afford to pay the required amount, take the person to the priest. He will determine the amount for you to pay based on what you can afford."
That is one sick ass verse. Don't see how you can rationalize that.
I didn't realize just how sick that verse is till I read the whole thing, I thought it was just placing value on people but it is much more sinister than that, that is the price of admission and nothing more, give me 20 shekels since you are only 15 years old so you are getting a deal to be part of our cult.
@sonhouse saidRedemption is paid by God not man!

The price of those particular vows cost more for a man than a woman, if you want to find fault there, you should complain about that.
@KellyJay
There is nothing you can say to rationalize away that Leviticus verse, it says you pay a certain amount if you want in the club. And presumably because women are considered second class, they only have to pay 30 shekels to join the club but a man must pay 50 shekels since he is higher on the evolutionary scale than any woman.
@sonhouse saidI don't have to say anything to rationalize it, it speaks for itself you are the one altering the part of vows out of it as the worth of the person as the main point.

That verse talks about the price of admission into the club. If we were to join say the local swimming pool club, there would be no difference for kids able to swim alone or adult women or adult men.
Yes sir, our price is ten dollars a month per person, no, well, women get a break, it's only 8 dollars a month for them.
