@rajk999 saidBelieve the “correct” dogma, love the “correct” symbols and images, talk Christian faith talk, but do nothing to save your neighbours from a version of Jesus who will burn them in hell for eternity if they don’t love him back, or at least state a belief in those dogmas.
You totally missed the point of what Jesus said if you think wearing a cross has any value. To pick up ones cross means to deny oneself of worldly pleasures. To follow Christ means to keep his commandments. Wearing a cross counts for nothing and nowhere did Jesus say to believe in his crucifixion. Churches continue to twist the bible and create their own doctrine.
Sums it up.
@divegeester saidI remember reading a post of yours admitting your a Christian just not a very good one?
“Stauros [σταυρός]is a Greek word for a stake or an implement of capital punishment. The Greek New Testament uses the word stauros for the instrument of Jesus' crucifixion, and it is generally translated cross in Christian contexts.”

@medullah saidI did say what mike69 remembers; I’ve said it many times.
@mike69
DG believes what he believes and stands up for that which he understands to be true. You can’t knock him for that. If he has posted as you have said Mike is he not showing humility to acknowledge that he gets it wrong at times ?
It’s not intended to display humility, it’s just the truth.
@Philokalia
You are right about the extremes that this could be taken, and I have heard it claimed that this is partly to blame for the lack of Jewish art in the world. Your quote from the catholic encyclopaedia looks to me like and attempt by the catholic authorities to get themselves off of the hook. Go into one of their services and bowing before a cross is part of the Sunday ritual (the same I believe is true of the Church of England).
The scriptures are quite clear about bowing before crosses and images of Mary etc. It’s forbidden as has already been said. I think that you’ll find that Mormons don’t do crosses or pagan imagery either, although their interpretation on adultery is interesting.
On the subject of wearing crosses I look at it this way (watch the pelters fly lol). If your best friend were killed by a guy with submachine gun, you wouldn’t wear a scaled down image of a submachine gun around your neck from that day onwards would you? So why would you wear a cross bearing in mind it’s pagan origins?
@rajk999 saidI read the first more as accepting the burdens, limitations, insults, pains, and horrors of the incarnate life, and to keep on going nonetheless.
To pick up ones cross means to deny oneself of worldly pleasures. To follow Christ means to keep his commandments.
I read the second more as doing as He did or following His example, which is not to say His commandments should not be kept.
@philokalia saidHmm. Hadn't thought of it that way.
Why not wear a cross? As a symbol of taking up your cross, so to speak?
In America I think some Christians wear a cross to keep the gays away.
Or maybe "I'm Christian, therefore special."
Or "I'm Christian -- please don't hurt me."
Or "I'm a Republican."
🤷🏻♂️

Can you give me a couple of good examples for reference to better answer? Also while doing so look with open eyes for the opposite leaning more towards banter of Christian’s. I’m not doubting his Christianity just the way it’s used most often than not.
@rajk999 saidYou totally missed what I said & reinterpreted it in an asinine way.

I stated:
Christ Predicted this and used it as a symbol of what we must do as Christians:
... Which means it makes sense as a Christian symbol, not that you gain merit by wearing a cross.
What do you mean... He did not tell people to believe in His Crucifixion? I suppose that could mean a lot of things.
But do you remember this?
John 20:26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”
Christ is telling St. Thomas to not doubt His Crucifixion.

I agree about praying to saints, Mary etc., I need a little more clarity from you on your insight about the cross or other images from the Bible, not of other Gods etc.. Everyone has different abilities. So for someone that uses these things of God as an instrument to help connect with God Out of necessity for a short time or not your saying is wrong even if it helps for them to be saved, isn’t that the goal? My wedding band was the three strands tied together for reasons I’m sure you know, would you consider that wrong, sounds judgement of one human of another because they feel different about them or their needed by them. It’s also interest you would use the Mormons as your back up point and then say their other belief is wrong. Sounds like picking and choosing for yourself what’s correct or not. BTW i don’t wear anything now or am I Catholic.
