@ghost-of-a-duke saidI can live with this definition, I don’t feel strongly about it either way, other than arguing a moot point. Good works towards other people no matter how they are motivated is a good thing.
Not quite.
An altruistic act is where the primary motivator is the wellbeing of somebody else. So, for example, if you were to rescue somebody from a burning building and put your own life at risk, your altruistic act isn't negated by any sense of pride you might feel afterward, or if you had made the most of the opportunity and toasted some marshmallows for your ...[text shortened]... pure expression of altruism if ever there was one, comparable perhaps with the atonement of Christ.

So good works are good?
That’s why they call ‘em “good works” and not “Ok works” or “bad works.”
Good works are good!

@ghost-of-a-duke saidYou initiated a convo with me, Ghosty old boy.
Go involve yourself in another conversation. I'm not interested.
And I know (as you do too) why you’re now begging off convos with me - too many losses in substantive debates.

@kellyjay saida patient love might miss the boat....
As I said, feeling comes and goes.
1 Corinthians 13
English Standard Version
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I ha ...[text shortened]... fully known.
So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
@avalanchethecat saidI engage in a lot of substantive discussions. Just check my posting history.
But you're an ineffective troll. You just repeat the same tired old phrases over and over. And you're a proven liar. What else do you do here?
And I only troll people when they troll me - and most times, I ignore it.
You’re free to characterize me and my posting any way you wish, but that doesn’t make it true.
You’re a very dishonest person. I knew that from the moment you claimed to have read the Gospels a “whole bunch of times” after becoming an atheist - even though, as you later said, you didn’t believe them and found them so objectionable you could only tolerate reading small quantities at a time.
Such a brazen and shameless lie.
As was your claim to have looked into the Holy Bible “extensively” and the theory of evolution “extensively” when you didn’t know basic facts about either.
@pb1022 saidThat's the 35th time you've tried to troll me with your belief that I was lying when I told you I had read the Gospels several times. Since I told you that, I've re-read Luke and Timothy. Your belief that it's not true doesn't make it not true, and your repeated bearing of false witness in this matter reveal your true 'christian' nature.

You, on the other hand, have been proven a liar at least twice. I haven't counted the number of times you've deceitfully denied your previous now banned identity.
You're a liar, an ineffective troll and not really a christian at all.

That’s not what you said. You claimed (obviously falsely) to have read the Gospels a “whole bunch of times” AFTER becoming an atheist and said later that you don’t believe the Gospels and find them so objectionable you can only tolerate reading small quantities of them at a time.
I’m not trolling you. You called me a liar and I’m simply pointing out ONE of the ridiculous and shameless lies you’ve told in here.
<<Since I told you that, I've re-read Luke and Timothy.>>
Sure you have. And Timothy’s not a Gospel.
<<Your belief that it's not true doesn't make it not true, and your repeated bearing of false witness in this matter reveal your true 'christian' nature.>>
If you don’t want examples of your brazen lying brought up, don’t falsely call me a liar.
If you can’t take it, don’t dish it out.
<<You, on the other hand, have been proven a liar at least twice.>>
False and you know it.
<<I haven't counted the number of times you've deceitfully denied your previous now banned identity.>>
