I'm sorry we're not conforming to your idea of what you wanted this thread to be about. This is an internet forum and threads often get lives of their own.
Deal with it.
After the way I was treated in one of your General Forum threads (you know which one), you don't need to be reminding me about anything.
Welcome to that Meta-Game called Life.

Right.
The Lake of Fire is what keeps the core of the Earth hot.
If I wasn't laughing so hard I'd be crying.
What have I told you about giving Christians a bad name?
Do you really believe this? Really?
You guys laugh, but I actually know a few people that believe this. A guy at work goes to a Baptist church and he said he even heard of tunnels and caves where it sounds like very faint screaming. I didn't laugh at him because you can only know what you have been taught. Apparently he learned this at his church. Sad but true.

First one has to see that the passages on eternal perdition exist in the text of the original Greek New Testament. Secondly the character of God is not smeared by eternal perdition.
Not in the Old Testament or the New:
"A God of truth WITHOUT iniquity; just and right is He:" (Deut. 32:4)
In smiting Israel and her captivity G ...[text shortened]... , along with our love for God - (Luke 11:4,5; Matt. 10:28; 5:27-30)
If my little girl were raped and murdered, God forbid, I would want a vengeance like I cannot imagine. But after my mourning I probably would want this guy to suffer and die a horrible death. But to burn forever? Just think of the pain involved from a little burn from cooking. Can you imagine your entire body on fire? The pain would be excruciating! Then lets add for 10 minutes? I would pass out. Now think of forever. I just cannot comprehend that kind of torture.
I do not believe my God is like that. It just does not fit His character that is described in the bible. How could I have peace and joy in the new Kingdom, knowing people who are suffering this way? God would have to erase all memory for starters. And to do that, He would have to hide a part of Him that He would not want us to know.
I'm sorry, but I would have a very difficult time swallowing that line of thinking.

The first factor of common sense with some of us is to ascertain carefully what the Bible has taught us.

The question for some of us " What does the word of God say ? "
The Moslem thinking he is using just as much emotional sobriety and "common sense" would insist that a prophet like Jesus would NEVER be allowed by God to DIE on the cross.
The orthodox Jew using his "common sense" and a mighty appeal to emotion would say that God could NEVER be man who took baths, went to do his business, was thirsty or hungry no matter what.
So before jumping into the emotional appeal of all kinds of hypotheticals I have to ask:
1.) What does the word of God SAY?
2.) How can we be sure we have an accurate interpretation of what is said ?
3.) What other factors are involved which should be considered ?

I respect that. And I do not feel the need to try to force you on that.
If you have any questions for me as to how I deal with this or that problem, I'll respond.
Otherwise I think I'll leave it here for awhile. You cannot believe your God would do this matter of endless punishment.
I think it only makes sense to me if God is Ultimate beyond Whom, above Whom, behind Whom, aside from Whom there is no higher righteous appeal.
It is a dreadful subject. And if there was ever a doctrine I wanted to be convinced of it was some sort of Universalism. But I could not in good conscience take either Universalism or Annhilationism. But I earnestly tried for awhile I think.

It's not different then a parent making a child obey them because of some terrible consequences if they don't. If the parent loves them and earns their love and respect the child will give that back and in turn teach their offspring the same.
A parent would never punish their child with some horrible thing as burning them their whole life for simply being human and sinning.
God is even greater with his love for us and would never dream of burning a human forever in some molten firey lake.
So this Lake of Fire in the Bible is just a symbol of someone or something being done away with forever.
Perhaps the reason God uses this as an example is to show the completeness of the destruction of those things that he will no longer allow in the future? If he says satan will be there in that condition and to never exist again is very good for the future of us and our planet.

Originally posted by Grampy BobbyJohn 3:16 is the single most important verse in the bible. It is a statement of love, forgiveness, and hope. This verse is about God's character, which is love and a long awaited promise form Genesis And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
