@bigdogg saidYou're right and wrong.
That's not the issue.
The issue is that the followers call it a "free gift" when it obviously isn't.
"Work out your salvation with fear and trembling" - now there is a more accurate description of that belief system.
Eternal life is a gift and it's free, but at greater cost than humanly imaginable.
Maybe you'll get this, but I'm not too hopeful. God works in salvation(no one else can), and the one saved works that salvation out in all that it means to be Christian.
Notice it says "work out your salvation". Inferring that one has, as a present possession, the salvation provided by God.
That's what that verse means. You're free to not believe it.
@bigdogg saidRight again bigdogg.
Accept this "free gift" or I'll shoot you in the face.
Accept the gift, purchased by the blood of Christ at an unimaginable price, or go your own way, on the broadway, to destruction.
I think you're beginning to see just how simple it really is.
Together forever with Jesus, or not.
@pb1022 saidI'm not interested in what mysterious 'others' may think it is supposed to mean.
You should read some commentaries on that verse. I don’t think it means what you think.
Philippians 2:12.
Actually, I rather like finding new contexts for old ideas.
Obviously this is less of a problem for me, as I do not tie myself to any existing orthodoxy, wholesale.
1. Everyone deserves to be punished for eternity because all humans are evil in the eyes of God. [Peeing on someone's back.]
Why didn't you write "God figure?"
2. You have to believe in God and seek His forgiveness ~ because YOU are evil ~ otherwise you face "damnation". [Telling them it's raining.]
Why didn't you use "God figure?"
3. God has revealed to me how you can be "saved" from this fate. [Offering an umbrella.]
Where was your insistence of "God figure" here ?
BigDogg,
It sounds like you want to tell God that you want nothing to do with Him because He only created you to extort you.
"You created me to exist only to threaten me. So I want nothing to do with your offer to justify me forever from my sins."
It would be interesting to see what God who became a man to died for you would say to that. I really do not know.
But it is impossible to tell Him to reverse time and make you never to have existed.
It is also impossible that He should have created you and then given UP being God, because of your sins.
He has a place to assign all those who want nothing to do with Him.
He is only being honest to warn you that such a place will be impossible to enjoy.
I don't know Bigdogg. As I read through the Bible and especially the main center of the Bible Jesus Christ, I don't come away with the impression of a heart that created us just to extort us with threats.
I see something more like this: God in His wisdom, in eternity, knew that if He creates beings to be His son who may choose not to be His sons, He placed them all under one leader. And the destiny of that one leader they co-share along with him.
If Christ be thier leader as THE Firstborn Son who loved them and sacrificed Himself to justify all should they err (terribly DECEIVED to do so), they will co-enjoy His glorious eternal destiny.
@sonship saidThe ironic text in the OP is as if spoken by someone who believes in your God figure. Why would such a speaker use the word "figure"?
@FMF1. Everyone deserves to be punished for eternity because all humans are evil in the eyes of God. [Peeing on someone's back.]

@sonship saidSee Thread 192184 if you want to quibble my terminology.
