The charge of God in the Old Testament as merely a typical "tribal deity" is completely bogus. Those who happened to be God chosen people probably would wonder why He did not pick on someone else.
What we have is a God seeking to reach the whole world through His covenant with Abraham.
God could not get through with the created race. So after the Tower of Babel incident He initiated another race - the CALLED race. His intention was always to bless the total created race through the means of the faithfulness of the called race.
It was a BIG responsibility on the called race. And too many times this so-called "tribal deity" demonstrated that He was no respector of persons.
