@suzianne saidSo, loving the creator God is "the greatest commandment in the Law".
"Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it ...[text shortened]... as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."" - Matthew 22:34-40, NIV
While, on the other hand, believing that humans are reconciled with God and are thus offered salvation and the promise of everlasting life but only through belief in Jesus' divinity, sacrifice and resurrection ~ is NOT "the greatest commandment in the Law"?
Matthew 22:34-40 could be interpreted to mean that all people who love the Abrahamic God are obeying "the greatest commandment in the Law".

@fmf saidThis notion seems to have been invented by Paul because Jesus certainly didn't lay it out like this and a lot of early Christians didn't believe that Jesus literally returned from the dead.

The inference, of course, is that those who adhere to the one, also adhere to the other since the case is clearly made in the NT. If one loves the Lord, it follows that one would follow his scripture.

@suzianne saidThere's no escaping the fact that Jesus never said this:"If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."

@fmf saidJesus sent the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit, you should read the whole of scripture. Jesus saying something or a man moved by God carries the same weight. Jesus will have the greater position between us and the Father on account of who He is, but something of God no matter who says it is God's truth.

@kellyjay saidJesus never said:"If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." Clearly He did not know what doctrine was going to be formulated by people like Paul after He died.

John 6:27-29 English Standard Version (ESV)
Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.” Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”
You forget the Holy Spirit again?
Ephesians 1:12-14 English Standard Version (ESV)
so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
You keep rattling on for a rule book, you should be seeking God.
@kellyjay saidBeing "saved" by believing he rose from the dead was something dreamed up after Jesus died.

@kellyjay saidNothing here about how "salvation" relies on believing someone rose from the dead.
