@wolfgang59 saidThat alone wouldn't have been enough if all of the universe were not.
Oh...
it's the fine tuned Earth then?
I don't think this theory of macro evolution will survive long into the information age of the 21rst century.
I don't think it will be able to long survive the new discoveries of the fine calibration of the universe's constants to allow a place like the earth with its life to exist.
I could be wrong. But it doesn't look like the discoveries (ie. microbiology and the workings of the cell) of the 21rst century will permit long permit thinking people to view natural selection and random variation to account for the biosphere we see in total.
@ghost-of-a-duke saidWhat do you think would happen if just these two things were not as they are, gravity and the expansion of the universe?
I said in my initial post, 'Let's start with the shape of the Earth...'
I was making my point to you in bite-size stages. How can I do that if you immediately respond with a different question?
The Earth is a sphere. (Pretty much).
This shape is a result of gravity (just as snow will form into a ball if you applied pressure simultaneously to all sides).
The ...[text shortened]... long long time.
This renders the account of creation in Genesis impossible (if taken literally).
@kellyjay saidThe universe is so infinitely massive that every now and then conditions are right to sustain life. (The right distance from a sun etc etc). Indeed, due to its size, it would be peculiar if the right conditions didn't present themselves now and then.
How do you account for the fine tuned universe to support life?
@kellyjay saidLife would not exist. We wouldn't be having this conversation.
What do you think would happen if just these two things were not as they are, gravity and the expansion of the universe?
@sonship saidI'm not having this conversation with you sonship, even is there is gravity and the universe is expanding.

Life would not exist. We wouldn't be having this conversation.
Right. But we DO live and are having the conversation.

So serious! Where's your sense of humor man?
Tis hilarious.
THANKS ATHEISM !
@ghost-of-a-duke saidEvery now and then exactly how many now and thens are you aware of?

@ghost-of-a-duke saidYes fine tuned! These are just a couple of things required for the universe, so from constants in universal forces to information within cells these types of things are not chance, they are to specific without wide ranges in tolerances.
Life would not exist. We wouldn't be having this conversation.
@KellyJay
You Know Hugh Ross of Reasons to Believe takes this concept to an extraordinary degree. The whole universe, he says is tuned in view of a special group of local galaxies, for a special galaxy, for a special spiral arm in it, for a special solar system, with a special central star, with all special planets, all exquisitely positioned that there could be life on earth the most exquisitely special planet.

@kellyjay saidI have no doubt that there are many planets out there that support life. Due to the vastness of space, however (which makes such life-sustaining planets a no-brainer) it would take massive improvement in our ability to explore space if we are to ever encounter them.
Every now and then exactly how many now and thens are you aware of?
@kellyjay saidWe are indeed very fortunate that the right conditions existed for our planet to exist. This, however, has nothing to do with design or God. Nothing whatsoever.
