and this is before the world cup starts, what's it going to be like tomorrow? how many people are going to get crushed the death trying to watch south africa play in their first match?

greece players robbed, journalists robbed at gun point... transportation system a mess a few days before the world cup begins, tickets still available for most matches... wtf is the world cup being held in africa again?
Still, I'm pretty sure similar 'bad' things have happened in every single country that has hosted a world cup. There are criminals everywhere.
Transportation is VERY different here than in Europe, so don't believe every news story about it falling apart. Public transport is almost non-existent. We had family here from Belgium for a month and they got around just fine... After hiring a car.

Both these incidents were not at WC stadiums. The stadium games will be fine - we've hosted thousands of big football and rugby games at these stadiums.

what sport do you play?
it is definatly not sissy, no more sissy than cricket or golf, basketball or baseball or any other sport for that matter.
I grew up playing rugby and us Aussie's use to have back in those days the same mentality that it is was sissy to play soccer? but that is before we realised how skillful it actually is.
so there is still hope for you to change your view!!!
Originally posted by Crowleytbh i see the pictures of south africa and i think of the less developed south american nations. i've no doubts about the quality of the stadiums on offer and yes i'm sure there was similar crimes at most if not all of the previous world cups but how many of them were hosted in a 'developing' nation that "already has a high crime rate" and it seen (probably wrongly) to be quite dangerous? plus lets not get into the poverty level of s. africa… easy pickings those rich foreigners come to see the football, can imagine Ecuador hosting the world cup, the thieves would have a field day.

i know neither of the two stories i posted were from stadiums that are being used in the world cup but the first (today’s) was from an outdoor park that will be used to screen games, i think their slogan is "no ticket? no problem" hopefully the police will learn from today and it won't be a problem but the area has to be handled a lot better then it was today to prevent anymore problems.
as for transportation, this is were my south america comparison really comes it.. stuck in a traffic jam for over 3 hours during game day to make a trip that would normally take about 20mins... countless little buses, it'll be madness during the world cup. apparently they were supposed to have build new lanes on some of the roads but they won't be ready in time.
we'll see how it goes...
