@sonhouse saidIt was interesting to learn recently that in Australia voting is compulsory. (This is true in some other countries, too, with some having more punitive penalties than others.) In Australia's recent national elections, I think I read that 92% of eligible voters voted.
From Rob Reiner, puts the crux of the issue succinctly in one sentence.
And it is 100% true.
The state laws floating around the US by the multiple hundreds to suppress votes is all the refutation of that sentence we need.
So ultrarigntwingnuts, REFUTE IT IF YOU DARE.
I'll wait for it.
I think it would be great if the USA tried compulsory voting, with a token penalty for starters as it was phased in (e.g., $5.00), and of course while maintaining or expanding mail-in and early voting when legally possible.
@kevin-eleven saidIt's a good idea so, of course, it won't happen.

which this is being done? Can you be specific?
@KellyJay
How about them taking out all the voting places but one in a city the size of San Diego. For one. You don't think that will effect votes? Or making it illegal to even hand a voter a bottle of water no matter how hot it is when they have been in line for hours already just to vote and more hours to get there?
Or having 'poll watchers' who are there to intimidate LEGALLY.
Sure, nothing wrong with any of that stuff right?
If you didn't know about that you have been sleeping under a rock and willfully ignoring all the red flags.
You don't WANT to know the truth so you can keep on thinking
"All we want is voter ID, what's wrong with that".
Or DeasssholeJoy tearing out mail sorting machines for the direct purpose of slowing the mail so mail in votes might take too long and Oh sorry, too late, your vote now doesn't count.
I suppose you also didn't know about THAT little trick either. Or removing portable mail drop off boxes so there is only one in a city. Didn't know about THAT either I bet. The truth is you just want to be held in the dark so you can go on with your life as if nothing is wrong.
@sonhouse saidCan you cite the specific examples with something that backs up your claims, it is

no different than just saying they are doing something without specific examples.
Give links for all voting places in a city the size of San Diego for one. Other examples
of Republican specific examples with ways to validate what you are talking about
would be nice.
Actually, voter ID should be required, or do you think anyone claiming to be anyone
could vote however many times they like with assumed identities is just okay fine?
That is too complicated for Sonhouse. Sonhouse......please tell me, and everyone, what about voting has been suppressive. Your own words, please, Kk noted that someone sent a link, which is just not very beckoning. You tell us in your own words.Suzy couldn't give us a Tucker lie, after dog whistling her heart out, and Zahlanzi couldn't .....hell, I can't remember. But you can rise to the occasion, tell us where voting has been surpassed.
@jimm619 saidWell, I wish you and @Sonhouse would get your act together. Sonhouse says they passed laws
Here's a few for your grandmother to look over 😛
https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/analysis-opinion/5-egregious-voter-suppression-laws-2021
that ban blacks, browns, and Asians from voting. But here is what *your* link says is the outrage:
These laws impose a wide range of voter suppression measures, such as obstacles to voting by mail, new voter ID requirements, and limitations on what election officials can do to help promote voter access.
#1 Voting by mail is where the Democrats are cheating like hell. If you want democracy in America, back these measures.
#2 Voter ID: 85% of Americans are *FOR* voter ID. If you are against it, you want cheating to run amok
and you will have democrat thugocricy. This measure stops illegal aliens and dead people from voting.
What the repubs are trying to do is preserve democracy by stopping illeagal, cheater votes. Simple as that.
