Did anyone here about this? Apparently California has banned homeschools unless the teacher has a teaching license. If not, the minor must either attend public or private schools. I thought that all home schooled students had to take annual profeciency tests to assess if they are being taught what they need to learn. If so, why is this not good enough for the left coast?
Edit: I heard the fascist.....er.....um......progressive courts in California have just ruled on this. Oh hail Big Brother. Show us the way!!!

All holders of a competitive advantage push the government to make laws in order to increase the barriers of entrance to their industry or market, in order to create an artificial monopoly.
Should homeschooling be outlawed, private schools would obtain more clients... er... I meant... students.
It will be outlawed soon. Be patient.

Some things to consider about proficiency tests. First, they are extremely easy. Most kids shouldn't have trouble getting past that. A bigger test is how easily that get into college. While homeschooling sites like to tout the stories a couple of homeschooled kids who stand each year (e.g., 1600 SAT, accepted to an elite university, or won a spelling bee), most of these kids have a hard time moving up to the college level. My wife works in admissions at an elite public university. Every year she notices that homeschooled kids have a hard time getting in because it's very difficult for the college to measure the quality of their curriculum or the strength of the student within the curriculum. In a place where your average student has taken several AP exams, received near straight A's, and been in the top 10% of their high school class, a student with a transcript that is questionable struggles. Just an FYI for the young creationists parents out there, one of the big issues is science education. I thought California had already mandated certain science standards for homeschooled kids who want to enter one of the public universities.

Maybe they're trying to end the process of students whose parents claim they're being homeschooled but they're either being unschooled, locked in a closet, or the parents can't be bothered to get the kid to school and so claims they're being homeschooled. I know a lot of states claim to require annual testing and I know the homeschooling parents I've known personally have never done the testing.
