Funny how guys like you are always on the socialist 'freebie' side of the fence as long as someone else is paying.

(Or, to be fair, in telling him to feed the neighbors even more than he already is.)
Great point Posterboy!

The argument is solid. If this was a 100% pay to play site, then me, and the majority of non-subscribers would be gone. We understand the difference between need and wants, and when you only have a budget for needs, RHP is far far down the list. Therefore, making non-subscribers pay to be on the site would just make ...[text shortened]... we are freeloaders. It isn't like we are hacking the site and pirating the services therein...
Nobody is saying you shouldn't have a free trial, though I don't see why that includes the forums, but when the free trial lasts indefinitely I think you are taking advantage.

So now the "outsiders" are the paying subscribers? In this case I think the "outsiders" are buying the food.

Take note, Russ. Esoteric considers spending money for a subscription to Red Hot Pawn a stupid expenditure. And he can continue expressing his opinion forever in the forums for free. Ah, the irony of modern technology.

Wow, you guys are something. Day after day, post after post, soliciting your authority over everyone else because you pay to use this service. Why should I pat a subscriber on the back when all the said subscriber does is pat himself on the back.

If I become a subscriber one day, does that mean I have to be arrogant, or an elitist? Does that mean that I will get to treat people who are using a free forum board like dirt so that I can feel better about myself?

Personally, as long as there are people like you, I would rather not join the club.

If you outsiders would just stop trying to get people kicked out of the neighbor's house, then I would get off your case.

We non-subs are already on bread and water. The problem is that some of you paid for better food, and want to turn the neighbor's house into a restaurant, with only paying customers allowed.
Nevermind the fact that the owner of the house is perfectly content to allow guests inside without billing them.

You're buying the food, but you're also eating all the good stuff. You're having T-bone steaks while the non-subs eat bread and water (thanks xs!!), then whining about the few pennies you spent buying the bread.

I believe it was a non-subscriber who opened this thread asking for opinions. What's arrogant and elitist about fulfilling his request?

Whose whining? I just think that after a reasonable free trial, 30 days for example, those who play should pay to help support the site. Doesn't seem unreasonable to me, though it may seem unreasonable to a "Posterboy Freeloader" who evidently enjoys begging for bread.

Listen Mr BigMouthProblem.. the issue is your disgusting greedy attitude. You are benefiting from the subscriptions paid by the honest chess-players. At the very least you can be THANKFUL and GRATEFUL, instead of acting like a low-class piece of trash.
