It's hot with drama in here!
I've had a very dramatic day at work today.
@the-gravedigger saidI wish. No it's actually life/death for some of my clients.

@the-gravedigger saidNO
Are you a trauma surgeon?
What? no
no, not at all.
My job is not glamourous
My job is helping people
I work for an advice charity
People come to the charity when they are in a bad situation and I give them advice from our information (laws in common tongue)
It'd not be interesting for you, I'm sure.
It's a meaningful job
but we're a charity, we have limits and limited staff
There's a huge demand for our service, there's a cost of living crisis in the UK. It's having a detrimental effect on peoples mental health. Some people are in serious situations.
It's just been dramatic today- I've had to discuss police, child protection, poverty and suicide today. It makes for a long day.
I finish early today, then I have a 4 hour drive
I'll be back to my happy self in the morning, or maybe even before the morning!

@the-gravedigger saidyeah
Got it. Lot of misery around.
And drama. Today anyway
But the job is not depressing.
It's rewarding, once people know what their rights and responsibilities are, their lives can improve.
I don't think this is a job anyone can do for decades though, it's exhausting. Mentally.
I worked for the Youth Offending Team for a while and that was less draining.
@ponderable saidI will continue to talk about thumbs and their negative impact on this forum as often as I wish, but thanks for taking the time to give your opinion.
It's not the dissent but the endless harping, endless postings concentrating on what is named as a "trifle", which shows how important you see this.
I personnally don't need thumbs and rarely give them, and often make the use public, so you know what I did and often even why. But you harp on and on and on and on ...and thumby yet, did people forma band to thumb? Is it ...[text shortened]... Russ would have had ample time and ample discussions on that if he wanted to do something about it.
@yo-its-me saidDo you also have on-call service? Emergency?
yeah

@ponderable saidIt's not a coincidence that the most obnoxious and least admired poster in the forum dislikes feedback via thumbs.

Poor chap.
He seems to exist in a delusional state; perhaps thinking that he'd be seen as less caustic and more influential if he could only rid the site of its thumbs.
The boy and his sidekicks are classic bullies:
They distribute abuse and want never to fear consequences. They feel entitled to this.
For the quiet, meek and humble: Thumbs represent feedback. Thumbs are their form of "consequences".

@woofwoof saidAre these "quiet, meek and humble" people forum posters or people just looking at the forums? What makes you say they are "quiet, meek and humble"? Have you met them? Have you talked to them?
