I would imagine there are other's in the same boat . I really think centrally locating is is the way to go if you want there to be any kind of a shot at people from everywhere showing up . Someone mentioned Lincoln/Omaha area as being THE center spot . That's great , but there's nothing there but pig shite and corn fields . It needs to be a comprimise of a city with something going for it and geography .
Since the conversation in the London Meet-Up thread seems to have turned to a similar event in the US and/or Canada, I figured I'd start a new thread for the purpose of discussing that.
Geographically, we're covering a much larger territory, so I thought it might be worthwhile to consider two meet-ups, one for the eastern half of the continent, and ...[text shortened]... r to central).
For the west, I'm thinking Denver or San Francisco.
What do you all think?
If this fractures into a bunch of regional get togethers then that's fine too . Anyone interested in N Colorado ? Me and Aspviper666 live about 20 miles away . We've been talking about getting together for otb , but have been too busy . Darth Sponge , Wildfire , and fatty are all from around here too . I know there are a couple of others as well but I'm crap at remembering who .

Everybody seems to be voting for what's most convenient for THEM, not what would be most convenient for the greatest number. If you don't think I'm correct that Boston isn't the geographical best choice, fine; what's with making it personal?
So your opinion is more logical or politically correct (fair to everyone) than a vote?
Don't you think people ARE voting for what's most accesible and inviting to them and consequently the greatest number of people will participate?
That's my opinion.....

If Philly is better, that is where I will go. Again, I thought Boston was big enough to get the New England people, NY, Canada... etc.
Nothing is stone, and NO... I can't organize my socks let alone a chess meet!!!
I'll be outside smoking whereever we end up. Dang London people get to smoke inside... that is old style.

This is a tough time of year to be planning this anyway. I suggest we plan something regional in the northeast for March - April. The next month is out, and January - February weather is too unpredictable.

Remember, the london meet was almost all people from England, which is approx. a little larger than texas i believe.
England's area is 50,352 square miles.
Texas's area is 268,581 square miles.
England is only about 1/5 the area of Texas.
(not that this has anything to do with the conversation at hand - it's just an interesting bit of trivia....😀)

Originally posted by no1marauderI'm taking that to mean that you're not putting in a vote for any specific city, but that you are magnanimously willing to travel to a city that's less convenient for you as suits the majority of others.
I'm stating my opinion on what would be best for more people; I live in upstate New York about 3 hours from Boston, so it would actually be closer than the other places mentioned. I would make an attempt to attend any such get together in the eastern US (it would give some people their chance to take a poke at me).
Originally posted by zakkwylderI have you down as voting for NYC - I only took your first choice as I don't have a means of counting 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choices....
no1 is right. Boston is in a bit of a corner and is much farther away than alot of other cities. The one which is chosen should at least be somewhat equidistant from everybody. On second thought, I'm changing my pick of Boston to either Philly or D.C., whichever is more favorably looked upon. I still think NYC is a good choice though.
