Father Anton Tromp, a priest of the Order of Saint Agustine [OSA], one of the finest men I've known in my life, and I'd be willing to wager there are thousands of people here in Indonesia whose lives he touched over the last 53 years who'd feel the same way.
He was the key mover and shaker behind the Roman Catholic Diocese of Manokwari-Sorong and its bishops for decades. He was a priest, he tended to the sick, delivered babies, acted as an arbitrator, an advocate, a mentor, he raised money to put hundreds of poor people through college and thousands through school, he set up a dozen or more schools and several clinics and hospitals.
He was my good friend and 'consigliere' when I lived on the edge of the rainforest wilderness in the early 1990s. A great man: a legend to those who loved him. Born a Dutchman, he died an Indonesian. He passed away at the age of 78 in Manokwari this morning.
@fmf saidHe sounds a wonderful man and I imagine he now has a place in heaven if such a place exists 🕊️

@woodgirl saidIf heaven exists and that's where he is, then his life well-lived and his faith made sense. I believe the substance of the afterlife, for each of us, is how we "live on" in the memories of those who loved us or who were affected by us.
