Originally posted by GalaxyShieldyeah i was waiting for someone to mention audioslave. i was blown away by their album when i first heard it two years ago. very different , it flows , decent music . i like them alot , i do but... it is not even ion the top 20 rock bands of all time. sry, but it isn't . they do not stand the test of time yet. you have to consider baqnds that contiually have come out with absolute major major albums for years, whicj is not to say that a band to fall into consideraqtion for top rock band friggin ever has to come up with a steady dose of albums but one great record can't do it. the guy who mentioned the Who, i saw the Who and they were amazing, probably in the top 7. maybe
Some of my favorites have been...
Nirvana
The Killers
Queen
Modest Mouse
Audioslave
Green Day (keep it old, though, ie anything before American Idiot [International Superhits is an excellent album])
Foo Fighters (2nd, 3rd and their live albums are the best)
Zeppelin
Alkaline Trio
Against Me
Nine Inch Nails
Bob Dylan
Granted none of the ...[text shortened]... and Dylan), but all of them are good solid rock bands, some better than others but all are good.
Originally posted by biggest bI never said Audioslave is a top band, even top 20. I just like their first album and a couple songs from Out of Exile. They're first album is very high quality rock, but compared to other first albums (ie Nevermind [wasn't Nirvana's first album of course, just the first that was more widely available, and the one that had the most impact], Dookie, Zeppelin) it's nothing.

Webster qualifies the word best with the terms excellence, quality and achievement.
I'll list 1-5 for each catagory with the #1 band getting 5 points. I will only mention real bands and not rock solo artists using backing musicians
With Excellence I'll refer to musicianship. 1. Cream 2. Led Zeppelin 3. Yes 4. Allman Brothers 5. The Greatful ...[text shortened]... - 10 pts
The Rolling Stones - 8 pts
Cream - 5 pts
Led Zeppelin - 4 pts
Pink Floyd - 4pts

Solid all the way around. Chris Squire was really an influencial bassist in my opinion. He played that trebally Rickenbacker. Had a similar sound as Stanley Clark, Jaco and Miroslav Vitous.
I would have put King Crimson in my top five for musicianship but which bunch do I name?
Originally posted by badmoonundenieable that Jaco is the best and most talented base guitarists of all time. as for the actual question that i posed to begin this forum... best rock band ever. Jaco is not a rock band. We have to stay on topic here ppl. bigb.
