Anyway, I only started rereading this thread because I was stunned yesterday to discover that one of my students was recently forbidden by her mother to play with two of the other students. Why? Because "she saw them." She's Mexican, and one of the girls she can't play with is African-American, and the other is biracial (A-A and Hispanic). I really didn't think parents still did that.

How do you mean "raised as whites?" Do you mean they're black but told their white? They're raised with the same general experiences and values as white children?
no, just without access to much black culture. as opposed to those who are steeped in it so it's natural as breathing.
