Come to think of it, I don't think saying photoshop or similar programs are just a digital darkroom doesn't say much about what you see as a "original" ( I assume you mean unmanipulated?) photograph, and what as a manipulated one. But neither does my 'i can do it in my darkroom' criterium. You can do a lot of stuff in the darkroom, often resulting in image ...[text shortened]... of a single exposure, with only adjustments in contrast and use of dodging and burning.
David
keep it fun.
Original is straight from the camera and does not include dodging and burning.. if you post on flickr or enter a society camera comp in the "Original" catagory you are not allowed to dodge burn or adjust in any way at all.
20% of my images are true original.. 60% are adjusted and the remainder would be hobby art manipulation.
Digital Darkroom is a commercial term or catagory for post image processing software (aka darkroom) inc PS, Corel, and freeware like picassa.
At a glance none of the images in this round have been manipulated if you think they have don't vote for them.

I don't agree on the dodging and burning though, there are many photo sites and competitions that accept photographs which had some dodging and burning done to them as original. I don't think a clear line can be drawn between orginal and adjusted.
I wasn't fulminating against manipulation, sorry if you read it that way. In fact, it doesn't matter much to me. For me, a nice picture is a nice picture, regardless how it came to be.

I'm not sure what criteria we are meant to be judging on, so I opted for composition first and then quality of image as I see it. So:
1. Grey Day
2. Bus
3. Copper Beech Leaves
4. Pigeons
5. Sky High
6. Lost City
7. Max
8. Through the Light

If we were to maintain the pics at their original top quality, then some of them could be upto 8megs in size, and the comp would be restricted to broadband users only.
Fair enough, was I not supposed to comment on my reasons?
End of the day, its your decision and as you stated that you didn't know what the voting criteria should be, I told you what I thought it should be; that you like the picture.

I disagree a bit with Ragnorak on image quality. I don't use it as a major criterium, but I would expect decent quality without things like a lot of dust or bad JPEG artifacts. Of course I don't expect print quality, but 200 kB are enough for decent quality on the monitor.
Originally posted by NordlysI just think it would be unfair to dock the likes of Dawn Cottage http://www.katja.klee24.de/TFC/BW/DawnCottage.html for a dodgy sky when the crappy effect displayed is just due to the reduction of size of the pic.

If you like the picture then the criteria for entry of photos (less than 200kb, 1024*768) should be taken into account)
EDIT due to bug in forum which deletes all post after a less than symbol for some reason. 🙁
