But I had a very clear favourite in this round - "Suicide" - and was very surprised that it only got one other vote. I thought it was brilliant. It's also one of the pictures which fit the B/W topic perfectly - I don't think it would have worked as well in colour. I love how the figure merges with the rock, and I like to look at all the different shades of grey of the rock. I wonder if the subject put people off?
Yes you are right hops, your bus picture is the best and I'm really surprised that it didn't win. I don't know what is wrong with the world we live in, sir.
Originally posted by RagnorakWell, I guess my answer doesn't really matter anymore, but yes, I plan to submit some pictures for the Movement/Motion round.
Before I submit my pics for this round, I'd like to know if there is any interest in the "Movement/Motion" round, as I'll save a pic for that round if it looks like it'll go ahead. If not, I'd like to submit the pic to this round.
So, anybody thinking about entering movement/motion?

Apart from the subject of the photo, the skeleton in the rocky niche, there was nothing special to the photograph. It's a blurry tourist snap. I can't find one thing in the photo that is in focus, it's over exposed, there's a blurry glowing white ball of light in the bottom right which ruins the attempted gloomy effect, and there are streams of white light all over the place. Sorry Ragnorak, but you deserve my honesty.
I sharpened it and rebalanced it, it looks a bit better, but it's still a long way off from being a good photograph:

And it would've probably looked a lot better in colour, I'm guessing it was pretty close to being monochromatic anyway.
Originally posted by hopscotchI like Ragnorak's version much better. I agree it's slightly overexposed, and I would reduce the brightness a bit. But crisp sharpness like in "Max" - where it looked really good - doesn't do this picture any good IMO. And in your version, I don't get this feeling that the skeleton merges with the rock due to the enhanced contrasts (I think), and that was one of the reasons why I liked the picture.

Originally posted by hopscotchIn my opinion this one is much better than the one you entered. The one you entered had the advantage that there's not so much distracting stuff in the background, but the head looks much less interesting from that perspective, so there's not much to distract from anyway.

As for "Max", I prefer the photoshopped version. As mentioned in my last post, I liked the crisp sharpness where you can almost see every single hair. I don't mind the cut-off paw (ouch! ) at all. A really nice picture (and I don't even like dogs).

And of course you can also still comment on pictures from the Black and White Round. I still haven't commented on all pictures I'd like to comment on (and had commented on in a post which was lost due to a wrong click...), but I need to work on the next round first.
Speaking of the next round, I decided to keep the voting system, but allow comments and discussion while the voting is open. To avoid the problems we had in the first round (where the few comments which were made were mostly about one picture and mostly negative, which upset the person who had entered that picture), I think I'll ask everybody for a comment on their favourite picture (other comments would be optional). How does that sound?

Very good idea.
Also, Firefox remembers what you have written when you go back. I don't know if that's how you lost your post, but in IE, you'd have lost what you had written.
