Dear Idiot.
Who do you think you are. YOU don't have the right to make statements as though they are facts when it's just YOUR simpleton assumption based on YOUR experience. Anyone who posts crap [like yours was] should be swiftly kicked out, whether they are subs or non-subs.
fyi.
The UK basic state pension is £82.05 out of which they have to pa ...[text shortened]... myself for a year or two, no probs, but I wouldn't like to again, or for any longer than that.

I, on the other hand am not guessing, I know these sort of people and their circumstances and I feel someone should speak up for them. Admittedly there ARE those who are too tight to subscribe, but it's unfair saying all non-subs are.

Just a couple of things...
1. Respect doesn't cost you much, I don't call you an idiot, even if I don't agree with what you wrote.
2. Every opinion is valid, and you answered my post with some quite plausible reasons why there may not be enough left over from a pensioner's income to pay their TFC/RHP/etc. subscription. However, I believe that most of the non-subs who regularly post in the forums, play a few games on sites that subs pay for, and refuse to become full members of this community because they say that they can't afford it, are not pensioners. Maybe they are unemployed, disabled, otherwise challenged, but I don't think that they are too poor to find a measley $30 a year from somewhere.
Please correct me on this view if I am wrong.
3. If you know a pensioner who likes a game of chess and has a computer and internet, I couldn't suggest a better Christmas pressie than a TFC/RHP/etc. subscription. If any of the people reading this are similarly (in terms of income) challenged, may I suggest that number 1 on their Christmas Wish List this year is a sub...?
4. I didn't write that, quote, "I was unemployed for a year, I managed". I wrote that I SAVED when I was a dole scrounger, and mentioned some of the things I did to manage that incredible feat.
5. What's your reason for not subscribing, Doctor?
6. Some more suggestions:
Non-subs SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO TIME-OUT SUBSCRIBERS.
Non-subs should only be allowed to play 1/1 Time-out/timebank games.

Some people go to the library and use its computers and internet
and some are still in school and are unable to even get a job to pay for said subscription to this site
I think it is a great opportunity for the kids of today to be able to get on the web and play chess; honestly there’re worse things they could do
