Here is Lee Davis' round 3 game. He is Black against David Ledger (graded 199). A pretty lame effort from Davis, to be honest.

Well be fair. He's graded in the mid 160s so he was out gunned by a margin of 35 odd bcf points.

It's not like he's IM strength or anything.

ps: is that really the right move order? What's the exchange sac on move 13 all about?

13. ... Rd4 was an incredibly bad move, wasn't it?

I have a theory - two days ago Lee Davis lost very quickly when his opponent played an exchange sac, so I'm guessing that Davis now believes rooks to be worth less than knights and bishops. He probably felt pleased as punch when his opponent yesterday walked into his trap with 14. Nxd4??

Take a look at Foster v Brown in the under 16 championship.

Brown seems to have just let his clock run out (he had plenty of time to move) but 25. ...... Kh8 is OK isn't it? or am I missing something obvious?

Funnily enough I was watching that game myself as I am friends with the Foster family. I have e-mailed Mr Foster and asked him to let me know what happened at the end of that game. When I find out I'll post it here. I suspect that more moves were played but that Black lost on time before they got to move forty.

It is possible that the move was played so quickly the machine did not record it - you will find that sort of thing can happen on those sensor boards. I have seen some completely mad moves being played in pervious years.

I know a few more details about the Foster vs Brown game. In time trouble Brown touched his king with the intention of moving it and then realised that this was a blunder which lost a rook, so he resigned. I guess this must be some time after the final position shown on the live site.

James Foster has improved a lot in the last year and he plays the French Defence himself as Black, so it's not that surprising that he turned over a higher rated opponent who played it against him. The good thing about the Milner-Barry Gambit is that it tends to lead to quite open positions, the sort that a typical French Defence player is not comfortable with.

I hope Arkell gets punished for giving away his black-squared bishop like that. I can't believe he deliberately gave himself such long term problems for the sake of one miserable little pawn.

booo!

what's going on in the hanley vs lalic? looks like the 2200 is controlling the gm, or am I missing something? if I was as inactive as black I'd assume I'm getting ran over after those pawns start rolling on kingside... or will the white pieces get kicked and lose just enough time for black pawns to reach white king?

Yes the black bishop is the main piece in that oppening but he is a GM so i assume he knows what hes doing....Lalic is a boring player anyways he will probably get a draw as hes the draw master not GM....

Bogdan Lalic got his draw. His wife, though, won with astonishing ease. Not many Caro Kanns end with Black winning in under twenty moves!
