Susan Lalic's opponent, Stephen Gregory, is the player who beat Richard Pert in round 2 and gave his brother, Nick, a tough fight in round 3. His game against Susan Lalic was a complete disaster though!

Is it true that Susan Lalic used to be Susan Arkell?

Yes!! Hebden won - that puts him in first place, I think.

I hope Arkell gets punished for giving away his black-squared bishop like that. I can't believe he deliberately gave himself such long term problems for the sake of one miserable little pawn.
He did lose in the end. Even grands are not always right in their assessment - I remember reading that Arkell used to be more aggressive in the old days - maybe defending is not really his thing.

Bogdan Lalic got his draw. His wife, though, won with astonishing ease. Not many Caro Kanns end with Black winning in under twenty moves!
I read on the official site that Susan Arkell/Lalic is now married to (and has twins with) Graeme Buckley who is also playing in the Championships! So she has been married to 3 of the player's on the top ten boards.
This could be where I'm going wrong - I need to marry Kosteniuk, Stefanova and (just to wind up Greenpawn) Elisabeth Paehtz.

In the end Jones with surprisingly easily. taking advantage of his opponent's offside king to force home his passed pawn in just a few moves.

Congratulations to David Tebb for chalking up his first win in the Major Open! This leaves him just half a point behind the leaders after a glut of draws on the top boards.
Dave wins again in Round 4. He's tied for 3rd place with a slew of others; crunch time starts NOW!

Just popped over to see some play. Dave T had a good solid win today against another kid. I spoke to him and apparently he was a bit lucky yesterday. He fell for some sort of opening trap against yet another junior and got a lost possition but managed to outplay/swindle the kid in time trouble.

Maybe you should form a former Steatham & Brixton Chess Club Members clan. Might even feel obliged to join it myself...

Lots of very illustrious names on our alumni list including

(from memory)
Danny King, Julian Hodgson RD Keene and many others.

Sadly these days they're stuck with the likes of me.

Yes, but I have never had any connection with Warwickshire chess. I did use to play for Streatham & Brixton.
