It seems that conquest ran out of time, but still won. Perhaps arkell resigned early but that does not strike me as usual behavior for him.

Rd8 in the final position on the board would be a bit of a killer.

It might be worth holding any celebrations for a few mintues until it is certain who actually did win.

Maybe Arkell resigned and no one bothered to turn the clocks off? I bet everyone's too busy celebrating and saying "good game" and whatever.

Yeah, he did resign. It says Conquest is the champion on the website now.

Quite a nice game to finish on - although Arkell could have defended I think - with 22. Rf8 - allowing him to counter Nxg6 with Rxf6.

Call me a sadistic soandso if you will, but I have to admit I gain considerable pleasure from seeing Arkell's Caro Kann get splattered in such spectacular fashion.

I definately share your enthusiasm for that game - it is always so demoralising when an opponent plays like that in the opening, and tries to wall up to keep you out.
