Do you think chess coaches should teach their students how to do a manly handshake? I have often got the impression my opponents would rather not have shaken my hand at all, and it is a poison creeping into our game.
Good to see Mr Tebb getting the better of these kids - nice to know that experience can still outgun youth. I wonder what sort of a handshake he has got?

I bet Tebb rips arms clean off.

Not sure if its against the rules, but it could just give you that psychological edge, Dave, so wear that leather face mask.
Good luck with the games. Win one for the Wirral.
Great play by the Blond Bombshell, Jack Rudd, today. He played the ending very accurately to extract a win out of what looked a completely drawn position. He obviously found it very difficult because he used 34 minutes on his clock for the 44 moves, which is far more time than he usually uses!
Jack sometimes sends me games for the Corner.
if he sends me that one I'll send it right back.
My readers don't want endings. Endings is what girls play.
My mob want sacs, counter sacs and them more sacs.
The Blond Bombshell? Is that his nickname?
Or is that just Fat Lady being silly again.
What do you think about the chances of there being a massive
tie for the Championship because the players have got together and
organised a carve up of the prize money?
Here is a picture of Jack Rudd: http://www.mark-adams-home.com/welsh/html/swi_2007_15.html
I invented the nickname Blond Bombshell myself. You can use it in your column as long as you pay me 1p for everyone who reads it. Or you can send me 10p in advance and we'll call it quits.
I remember Jack when he was a "precocious" youngster (is that the right term for someone who is very talented but very annoying?). He disappeared from the chess scene for ages (or maybe I just stopped following it so closely) and then came back as a precocious adult. You'd expect it to fail against the elite players, but sometimes it works against them as well.

Your 9p is in the post.
er...what does 'precocious' mean?
and how much is it going to cost me to use 'precocious' on the corner.
