Ahh... its really quite simple once you get it :-)
3. Kg6 (any 6:th rank should do it)
Is this what is called a tempo switch?
anyway... this forces black to move when he dont want to..
black has to play 3. ... Rxc7
leading to
4. Qf8+ Kg7
5. Qxb8
Voila A Queen vs Rook Endgame...
Nice :-)
but you are very close ....

It does matter where on 6:th rank.
3. Kh6..
Takes away blacks check possibilities.
Otherwise it should work as i described in my last post...
(I am almost afraid of posting this:-) )

Just for completeness, here the full solution
1.Rc7+ Rd7 (all other moves lose quickly) 2.Qc5+ Kd8 (only move) 3.Kh6! and black is in zugzwang:
a) 3. ... Rxc7? 4.Qf8+ wins the queen
b) 3. ... Qxc7? 4.Qf8#
c) 3. ... Qb1 4.Rc8#
d) 3. ... Rd5? 4.Qe7#
Any puzzles from your side?
Originally posted by Mephisto2Woa. That's an insanely hard one. The real question is how to divert the queen off the second rank, without losing either pawn, or moving the king from h2, or ging the queen enough time to grab a perpetual, so no quiet moves? The bishop could be sacced, except... all places to sac the bishop guard g3! I hate this! I'm going to go sulk now.
While waiting for someone else, here is another one:
White: Kh2 Ba5 g2 h3
Black: Kh4 Qc2 g6 h5
White to play and win.
I think 1. Bd8 is the FIRST move, necessary to box the king in, but I've no idea of the second.
ok..
I ll try this one out to...
how about:
1. Bd8+ g5
2. Bb6 Qd2 (queen cant leave second rank because g3 and Bf2)
3. Bc7 Qf7 (I cant really find a good response for white here since everything seems to lead to the same place)
4. Be5 Qf4+
5. g3+ Qxg3
6. Bxg3#
Am I playing Black to weakly this time to? :-)

1.Bd8+ g5
2.Bb6 Qd2
3.Bc7 g4! and black's king will escape
Darn.. I just cant let go once Ive started thinking about one of these....
1.Bd8+ g5
2.Ba5 (threatens mate at e1)
possibles:
2. ... Qe4
3. Bc7 Qf4+
4. g3+ Qxg3+
5. Bxg3#
better is:
2. ... Qe2
3. Bc7 Qf2
4. Be5 Qe1
5. g3+ Qxg3+
6. Bxg3#
As with the last... I'm almost afraid of making this post...
ok... forget about the Qe4 line, since g3#
I'm not exaggerating in the least describing my fear
in posting.. one second after i posted I saw that particular idiocy.
And I studied my lines for 15 minutes before posting..
Its like Brainfreeze, all over.
Now I just wait for the flaw in Qe2 to pop up...

While waiting for someone else, here is another one:
White: Kh2 Ba5 g2 h3
Black: Kh4 Qc2 g6 h5
White to play and win.
4...,g4? 5.Be7+,Qf6 6.Bxf6 checkmate
4....,Qf4+? 5.g3+,Qxg3,Bxg3 checkmate
any other move allows g3+ with mate to follow or Bg3 checkmate.
