Really hard for me,in my beginner way of thinking I'd never thought to promote to a knight............

If it's any consolation I also tried with a queen at first.I had a feeling it had to be done with knights though, but I was stuck 'cause I kept trying to give 2 checks first,to keep the king on a5.But that didn't work.Promoting to a knight with the first move is a very cunning idea!

when you say ''Rh1 and e4'' you mean a pawn in e4 or the other rook?

Edit:if you meant Re4 Decanter's answer is right ,but you should be more clear..........

Decanter got it.

With 'Rh1 and e4' I mean a rook on h1 and on e4.Pawns are given as p.Sorry,I thought it would be clear 😳
Will try to be more clear next time.Promise! 😏

are you sure? I can't even do it in 3 or more. I would think black escapes and has winning chances ....

Ok, I've gotten two so I guess I have to throw something into the pot. This isn't from my collection of material. I just picked it up online because it amused me:

White: Kb1, Qg6, pb3 and f7
Black: Kh8, Ng8, pg7

White to play and mate in 2
(hey, do I get to put in two because I got two? πŸ˜›)

I figured you'd be the one to get that since it is another puzzle that requires a promotion to something OTHER than a queen.

I've been looking at puzzles online but none really interest me. I have an endgame book at home so I'm submit another puzzle this evening. Until then... bring on another! πŸ™‚

Here's a bit of a joke puzzle. It's a fairly well know one, I believe.

White: Pawns on a2, a3, a4, a5, a6, a7. A rook on a1, and the White king on e1

Black: King on a8.

White to move, with a mate in 8.
