Originally posted by Very RustyYour rating here would probably equate to no more than a 1300 in the USCF esp. since you don't seem to have any experience with timed games. You'd be a decided underdog.
I agree it is certainly a big difference, even if you make a move and sleep on it all night. I suppose there are the rare exceptions, but I would sure like to play that 1500 player OTB 😉 !!!
Originally posted by no1marauderI had a cfc rating of 1669 back in the 90's, and was still climbing at the time. I also beat a 2000 player, and was most improved player that year. So don't tell me I wouldn't be competition for an USCF player rated only 1500 !!! The 1500 player would indeed be the underdog 😀 😛

My rating here is the result of game load and SANDBAGGERS !!! It is just that simple. Why anyone would try to say that their rating can be 600 + points higher than their OTB rating is well beyond me, as their understanding of the game is just not at that level.
It would be the same as me saying I could beat Mr.Tebbs on here, but not in an over the board game. Yea right, he would do the same in an over the board game as he would here, because his knowledge of the game is that much better than mine.
I have been back in the game now since Oct, 2006, after my decade or so lay off, and I think I am pretty much back at the playing strenght I was then.
Originally posted by Very RustySomeone with a mid 1600's rating who hasn't played in an OTB tourney since the 90's, shouldn't be so quick to denigrate a rating only a bit lower than his. Players currently rated around 1500 beat those currently rated in the 1600's all the time.

It's ridiculous for someone who has a 1600+ rating to spout off that someone with a 1500 rating doesn't understand chess. An OTB rating is reliant on a lot of factors besides general chess knowledge (my bugaboo is time management).
