The post that was quoted here has been removedOne of the best was a joker at this site claiming to be a GM or NM from Switzerland I believe. Funny thing was they were in the forum posting and making chess moves online when someone interrupted them...
"Aren't you in (such and such a place) playing in (such and such a tournament)??"
They claimed to be a person IRL but didn't realize that person was busy and it was publicly known to some chess players. They were soon removed for cheating.
Another great one is a person claiming to be near NM level bragging about a tournament in NY on a given date. They told an awesome story about a high-rated victory over one of a set of brothers. No1 looked up the tournament and found a player with a similar name did in fact play that day... but everyone was rated 800 to 1100 rather than being 2000+ players. They also were removed shortly after.
