@sonship saidPerhaps what escapes you, is that I don't believe in the devil.
But what I think escapes you is that the Devil didn't start out as evil.
The Devil started out as wanting to be independent from God.
@pb1022 saidLove [brotherly love] is the fulfilling of the law
Sure. Love God and love your neighbor. Those are what Jesus Christ said are the two greatest commandments and upon which hang all the law and prophets.
How do you love God?
“And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”
(John 6:40)
How do you l ...[text shortened]... ions and lusts.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
(Galatians 5:22-25)
Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.(Romans 13:8-10 KJV)
Cant remember seeing anything about faith or believing, fulfilling of the law
@ghost-of-a-duke saidThat doesn’t mean the devil doesn’t exist.
Perhaps what escapes you, is that I don't believe in the devil.
@ghost-of-a-duke saidThere is a good biblical argument for the non-existence of the devil, and that is is just temptation or sin in the flesh. Some Christians believe that there is no devil that goes around tempting anyone. It is not a critical doctrine in any event

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
(Matthew 22:36-40)
@rajk999 saidSo who was tempting Jesus Christ in the wilderness?

Are you saying Jesus didn’t speak of Satan?
@rajk999 saidMy dissertation was on the 'personification of evil in world religions.'

It wasn't well received. 😀

@ghost-of-a-duke saidAnd that’s just the way he wants it, champ.
Perhaps what escapes you, is that I don't believe in the devil.
@ghost-of-a-duke saidI have no doubt, but not for the reason you believe 😉
My dissertation was on the 'personification of evil in world religions.'
It wasn't well received. 😀
@ghost-of-a-duke saidYeah ... I could imagine that notion being ridiculous for most. I started off my younger days believing in the devil being simply the personification of sin, and then I started reading the Apocrypha and other Jewish writings about 20 yrs ago .. now Im on the fence. Those books can be very disturbing for the weak minded / stomached people.

@pb1022 saidJesus could have been talking to himself. He was human

Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.(James 1:13-15 KJV)

“could have been?”
Sounds like you’re trolling lol.
And all those times Jesus mentioned Satan and cast demons out of people, all the mentions of Satan throughout the New Testament?
@pb1022 saidWhat is this trolling comment about? We are carrying on a conversation and all of a sudden Im trolling, because you disagree? Is that an American thing because it sure sounds stupid. Then next comes the accusation that Im full of hate.

@rajk999 saidI think it's human nature to personify evil as it provides something tangible to blame.

Come on lol
As for the “full of hate” part, well, when you call people “dummy” and “fake Christian” and say they’re going to hell, that ain’t love, pardner
