Stubbornly repeating the same thing over and over and over again is not an argument. The idea that the Big Ten was the "best or second best conference" last year is laughable when they went 2-5 in bowl games and their top two got creamed. And by any measure the Big East is better than the Big Ten this year; the quality wins by the Big East teams prove th ...[text shortened]... one of the reasons the computers are impressed though not midwest coaches and sportswriters).

Why are we still picking on the Big 10? Sure they didn't have a real great showing this season...except for Ohio State...but I don't hear anyone screaming about how much the ACC sucks. Other than Boston College and Va Tech they had a crappy year as well. I mean Florida State used to be a powerhouse and be in the hunt for the NC every year...now look at em.
Technically almost every conference only had 1 or 2 teams that had a decent year.
The WAC only had Boise State and hawaii ( who didn't play anyone ) that did good and Boise State even had an off year compared to their last few years.
Actually the only conference that had 3 teams that had a good year was the Big 12.
It was a nutty year for college football so leave it at that.

Originally posted by nmdavidbI tend not to look at wins and loses any more. For example, the SEC is probably the strongest conference in college football. Therefore, a loss is not comparible to a weaker division such as the Big 12. A team like WVU would have gotten eaten for lunch this year had they had to play an SEC schedule. I would say that probably most of them belong in the top 10 regardless of what the BCS has to say. For example, a team like Florida is probably a top 5 team even though they have like 3 losses. Also, look at a team like USC. They were #1 at the beginning of the year but had injuries and lost 2 games as a result. Now they are healthy again and are arguably the best team in the land once again. Also, look at a team like Illinios who beat OSU this year. They are arugeably a better team now than they were at the beginning of the year. As a result, the whole system is a mess unless one views the regular season as one play off game after another. In such a scenerio then it makes sense. Otherwise a play off system is needed.

If Florida has three losses and you still think because of their talent they are a top 5 team, then why play at all? I think injuries are part of the game even for teams like Oregon, UCLA or Michigan which lost games they might not have had key players not been hurt -- but three losses is just too many and they had their QB playing all year.
Originally posted by jofazNo doubt that a team with three losses shouldn't be in the NC game, but realistically how many SEC teams could beat both Mizzou and WVU?

Quick count:
LSU
Florida
Georgia
Tennessee
Auburn
Arkansas
Maybe even Kentucky?

Using your logic, Hawaii had a better year than both.
Change "could" to "would" in my original statement.
Unlike Missouri, Hawaii did not go to Illinois and win or play a big 12 schedule. Unlike West Virginia, Hawaii did not play a Big east schedule. It matters who you play and how you play. Hawaii did not play anyone. Their best win was to a team that lost to Washington.
Kentucky lost 5 of their last 7 games. You really think they would beat Missouri or West Virginia? They have one great win but lastely they can't beat anyone. Similarly Arkansas has 4 losses including to Alabama; Auburn has 4 losses including to South Florida and Mississippi State. Why would you possibily think there would beat a top team?
Tennesee has three losses including Alabama (losers to Lousiana Monroe) and Cal (5 Pac 10 losses). Florida also has three losses including a home game against Auburn.
Georgia and LSU are the two best teams but lost to a six loss South Carolina team, LSU lost to a 5 loss Kentucy team. Both have two losses. The SEC is a great conference but every team has at least two losses and lost to a team with at least 4 losses. I don't see how you think they should get an opportunity to play a top 2 team or why they would beat them.

But I will give predictions...and health willing will back em up if 4 years.
Colorado under Dan Hawkins will be in the NC hunt in 2-3 years.
Michigan will be back there to if we get Les Miles from LSU.
Oklahoma is gonna win at least 1 more title in the next 4 years...Bob Stoops is just to good.
Pete Carrol and USC are gonna always be in the hunt unless he makes the mistake and goes back to the NFL...and will probably get 1 more in that time frame.
Argue if you like but i am sure you know I am right

No one said any of those schools were "inferior" to Hawaii, but Hawaii has had a better year than any of them. By the way...haven't seen Colt Brennen up for the Camp or the O'Brien and no mention on the Heisman? How can these other, statisically challenged QB's from inferior schools such as Kansas, Missouri, Florida and the like be shutting out the Hurling Hawaiian?
