“ I think your reasoning is simplistic and dead wrong - Russia has little interest in whether the Ukraine is a "democracy" or not (it is a flawed one with a poor human rights record which you ignore). Russia is interested in its own sec war between the West and Russia (which has a strong likelihood of resulting in nuclear catastrophe).”
Your thinking is a lot more flawed th ...[text shortened]... ber Ukraine giving up its soviet era nukes in exchange for security guarantees from Russia and NATO?
Gee, I never said any of that, did I?

But keep lying; you gave up any attempt for rational persuasion based on facts long ago.

By provoked I take it you mean existing and being democracies on his border. Or are you still pushing the fantastical lie that nato was ever going to attack Russia.
LMAO!

I won't bother to repeat the actions taken which "provoked" the Russians; I've already spelled them out in multiple posts and in several threads.

Your theory that Russia invaded Ukraine because it was such a thriving democracy and a strong economy that Putin was afraid the Russian People would demand to emulate it doesn't pass any laugh test.

NATO increased it's military weaponry in the countries west of Ukraine.
If Putin is on the ropes why the military build up? This is contradictory.

The only other reason that makes sense is that NATO is planning a direct war with Russia in Ukraine. That could mean nuclear war. Either admit Putin is not losing or start buying iodine.

No one except maybe one poster believes Russia is on the ropes.

Again, only Mchill believed Russia was losing. No one else "believed" propaganda.

Stop lying. You and sonhouse both claimed Putin would resort to desperate tactics. You both bought into that nonsense.

Yes, because Putin already has resorted to "desperate tacticts". It's illegal in Russia to contradict the Russian government's view on the war and dissenters can face 15 years in prison. And that's in addition to putting his nuclear forces on "high alert".

Those are desperate tactics from a man losing face among his own people.

I never thought Russia was losing the war. You just have garbage reading comprehension.

Rubbish.

That is just what you would expect from a country with no freedom of speech. If we didn't have a constitution here in the USA with the 1st amendment the same thing would happen here. And just because they "can" spend years in prison for war dissenters doesn't mean they will get that much time. How much time did that woman that interrupted a news cast with her anti war sign get?

And a man desperate to control the masses.

True. Many of Putin's critics also have been murdered, poisoned or kidnapped.

How much time did that woman that interrupted a news cast with her anti war sign get?

That woman is still on trial, and is being charged with treason.

Big tech censorship is desperate to control the masses then. Censorship is unamerican.

"Many of Putin's critics also have been murdered, poisoned or kidnapped."

Same thing with the Clintons.

You are posting like a complete idiot now, I guess once the debate goes beyond provincial US legal matters you need water wings.
Your supposed reasons for Putin’s invasion of Ukraine are utter and blatant nonsense. Perhaps you should stay out of these more complex geopolitical debates.
Putin invaded Ukraine to crush its democratically arrived at wish to lurch toward the west and away from its authoritarian neighbour.
Just how naive do you have to be to swallow the Kremlin line on why it is slaughtering Ukrainian civilians, or perhaps it’s not nativity at all, but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume it is.
