They also have a secret cure for all cancers and most other killer diseases. So what if you have to bring your own pillow and sheets if you have to stay in the hospital overnight. Sounds like a fair trade off to me. Love ya mucho, Castro.

Also they have 100% literacy, Castro is keeping it a secret how they managed that, since even the insane, autistic, and retarded can read, apparently. ONE HUNDRED PERCENT hahahahahahahahaaha

I agree, it is ridiculous, it's none the less true, if you did some reading on the subject you'd know this, actually if your not a big reader, I believe they made a film about it... Called 638 ways to kill castro..... And yes I have met quite a few cubans actually.... And as I said before, there are many reasons to leave, failing infrastructure and the US trade embargo being close to the top of that list.
My whole point about Castro wasn't that he was a great leader, all I was saying was that he actually did do some good in the world, and that the Propaganda you guys call news in the US probably isn't giving you both sides of the story.
Like him or not he was a remarkable man, with a great story and an interesting life, who fought until he couldn't stand anymore for what he believed in.... Not many of us can say the same......

I had no idea our CIA had such a serious security leak. They tried to kill Castro 638 times, and the details of all 638 somehow became common knowledge to a BBC film crew? Fascinating.
It's a good thing NASA had tighter security when they faked the moon landings, no one involved has talked about it yet.

Castro was a fine human being and fought for the good of all people around the world. He wanted only the best for his people and therefore kept them away from capitalism and fast food. However, he did have Micky D's big mac's flown to Cuba everyday, but he wasn't interested in his own health, only those of his people. Truely a man of good taste. He is not gone yet, but when the day comes that this great leader dies, the first thing that will come to my mind is....WHO the EFF is CASTRO?

Castro is standing down when he chooses to, not because of anything the US has done (despite their best efforts to invade or assasinate).

You can celebrate that the US survives longer than an individual if that makes you feel better.

Meanwhile, the ideas of the Cuban Revolution will long outlive the US.
Best efforts to invade or assasinate?

That doesn't seem likely.

Actually much of the information on these attempts comes form declassified CIA documentation, I wish people would do some research before coming out with "witty sarcasm"... The rest comes from Castro's ex lovers and the guy who spent his life protecting Castro.... And yes it may not be 638, but he's certainly survived more attempts and plots against his life than anyone else I know of.

Again I not saying he was a wonderful leader, all I'm saying is that he has a great story. He took Cuba from a US backed dictator(who was way more of a bastard than him by the way) with 7 men for god sakes.... Thats impressive.... And he did believe in Marxisim, the first land he seized from wealthy landowners was his own family farm.
And once again people in the USA probably don't get both sides of his story, only the "Castro was an evil communist" line.
The news in America is not entirely independent, the few channels that are aren't watched too much. I've seen this first hand, I was in Florida (was supposed to be in New Orleans but it didn't seem like such a good Idea) when Katrina hit.... The differences between what CNN etc showed in the states, and what my parents saw at home was astounding...

What do you mean?
Are you taking some kind of victorious credit for an old man retiring?
Does this mean that prior to this week Castro, or Cuba, 'got' Eisenhower, JFK, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush and Clinton?

I'm sorry, but I can't find any references to the CIA declassifying over SIX HUNDRED attempts to kill Castro, and it just doesn't sound like the sort of thing they'd do. I can find the film's claim that most of their information was given to them by:

"Fabian Escalante, the former head of Cuban Intelligence, the man who has had the job of protecting Castro for many of the 49 years he’s been in power, alleges that there were over 600 plots and conspiracies known to Cuban agents, all dreamt up to end the life of the “red menace”."

Whole thing sounds pretty fishy to me, but if it makes you happy, believe what you want. Communist propaganda can be entertaining.

The only reason I don't believe that number is because I don't think they'd fail that many times.

I was refering to them declassifying and making public highly sensitive documents that make them look embarrassingly stupid, not that they wouldn't kill people. Thought that was obvious from the wording. Sorry I had to explain it to you.

It's general knowledge that the CIA doesn't exactly ooze competence.

In that respect you have to give the French and the English their dues, they really are sneaky, manipulative bastards.

I just don't buy 638 assassination attempts. The person making the claim was Castro's personal security guard and would be likely to wildly exaggerate things for propaganda. I certainly can't see the CIA making public 638 tries at offing him. For that matter, I don't believe anybody in the CIA has the horsepower to just make a decision like that. Killing the head of a foreign country is something only the president could authorize, and you can't tell me that SIX HUNDRED THIRTY EIGHT authorizations came from different presidents to kill Castro. It's just ridiculous. It sounds like something Michael Moore would make up.
