Crocodiles are an old species, who were also around at the time of dinosaurs, therefore one might argue that dinosaurs still exist.
It seems very obvious to me that the dragon myths were born out of the discovery of dinosaur fossils. Our ancesters weren't as well educated as ourselves, and lent towards using fantastic stories to describe things that they couldn't explain. There are many other examples in history where they got it wrong, e.g. in the uk Barnacle geese, are named so because they were thought to hatch from Barnacles. (This myth was only laid to rest in 1891). Image if we were transported into the past 2000 years, sitting round the camp fire, listening to the shaman telling tales from the history of the world. "Veggy munching dipolodocus" isn't exactly going to be popular.

Their hips and bones prove that they are. The only unanswered question is "feathers".
did dino's have em' or not? Most say "not". That they adapted when one of the ten thousand "cold" periods hit, in the last 160 million years. The need for warmth and nesting warmth for eggs.
<edit> Isn't it interesting that we have been in a fifty degree C up and down cycle for three BILLION years and all of a sudden it is a GLOBAL WARMING PROBLEM? Amusing is the key word.
But we don't know for sure. The only thing that is quite sure is that the dino lives on in the form of birds.
