You booted out all the foreign drivers?
Or, maybe, to be a little more subtle: you created so much red tape that it’s not worth the effort to come to the UK…
What about the lorry driver shortage elsewhere in Europe?

(Conveniently overlooked.)

God I love Brexit threads, and Polexit threads.

I wonder which nation state will leave the EU next.

There isn’t one.
All the shops are fullly stocked and it’s business as usual.

I’m eating like a king.

No I haven’t, you are making it up.
So your not then? You do not subscribe to monetarism and small government, the sell off of publicly owned companies and the public housing stock and you definitely didn’t support the thatcher government.

When you’ve done that you can explain how the lorry driver shortage is a uniquely UK issue and how it is predominately due to Brexit?
Why should he explain a straw man? Nobody is claiming that truck drivers are in short supply only in England. The claim is that the problem is considerably more severe in England than in Europe. And this by your government's own admission - hence the desparate and ridiculous attempt to get middle-aged Germans to come and drive lorries in England. For a pittance. For a few-month, uncertain contract.

It's that large difference which is largely caused by Brexit and the ensuing red tape and uncertainty, not the general problem. IOW, for us in Europe it's a tricky situation, but England dug itself a whole lot deeper yet.

Why do you think that lorry driving has become such an unattractive employment?

Have a really good think about that and get back to me.

No it isn’t.

The problem in the UK is mostly due to 100,000 drivers who have retired during the last 18 months and there has been zero training and licensing of new drivers during the pandemic. Brexit has nothing to do with the shortage. This is the SAME cause of the shortage in Europe.

Lorry driving is like any other skilled profession, it is fed through the demand for transport and the supply of drivers. Over the next 18 - 24 months wages will increase and there will be a boost on new drivers getting qualified to fill the gap.

It’s hardly rocket science.

I’ve never claimed that I am a Thatcherite, you’re making it up. As usual.

What I HAVE stated in this forum, several times, is that I DO NOT support the sell off public utilities, in fact I believe they should all be renationalised. Including the railways.

Well, even though you’re a miserable old tory git… you obviously have redeeming features.

Or wait! Did your wife just post this to get back at you for not doing the dishes or something?
