So, they got me. First time in 10+ years of smoking.
I sent this letter to Glendale and Los Angeles Police Departments. Hopefully some police actually read it.
To the Officers of the Glendale and Los Angeles Police Departments,
I am sending you this note because I was pulled over by police from the Glendale Police Department recently for a fix-it ticket. In my car I had some marijuana which was of course confiscated and replaced with a ticket. This has never happened before in the ten years I've been smoking weed, so I was quite surprised.
I think it's important to bring to your attention the fact that the laws against marijuana possession are in violation of the citizens' inalienable right to pursue happiness, famously referred to in our nation's Declaration of Independence. I want to remind you that you are an organization that uses violence to suppress this inalienable right.
Of course, that's not really your fault. The police enforce the law. You're not responsible for what laws you have to enforce. I have none of the hatred of the police that's so much in style. I appreciate the work you do protecting the rest of us. Because I respect the police and your honor as Americans willing to risk your life in service to the citizens of this country, I want to ask you to think about this issue, and what you're being asked to do by the majority of Americans. You're being asked by the majority to suppress this inalienable right. The majority has no right to do this. If you really are the men and women of honor that I know you are, and Americans who embrace our nation's core values, I ask that you to lodge a formal objection with your superiors, the Mayor, or whoever is most appropriate about how you are shamefully forced to use violence to keep people from enjoying life.
I just want to work, make some money, pay back my debts, pay my bills, and enjoy life. It's the American Way. But I can't; why? Because some Mormons way back when decided they didn't like black people and Mexicans being too uppity and flirting with white women and they decided this was caused by marijuana. Those of you who are history buffs will know that this is no consipiracy theory; that's why marijuana was outlawed in the first place.
"But criminals and terrorists are the ones who make the money" you say? And why is that? Think it might be different without this ridiculous prohibition? Of course it would. Criminals and gangsters used to profit from alcohol while it was illegal. This crime is caused by these laws.
In addition to sending this note to the Glendale Police Department, I am sending it to LAPD, since I grew up in Los Angeles there and still live there. I may post it elsewhere as well.
With great respect,
ATY

I've never in 10 years had police bust me for weed, even when they pulled me over and I had bud in the car and had been smoking. I screwed up due to lack of experience with police actually enforcing that law...

Originally posted by AThousandYoungDon't consent to warrantless searches, ever, no matter how nice or upstanding the cop. It sets a bad precedent and gives the impression to the police that they can get away with more than they're entitled to. Unless there is some sort of dangerous situation developing and the cops do need your help preventing a real (ie violent or property) crime, you should never have meaningful contact with a cop on the beat. Seriously, if you're going to be using drugs, even casually, you need to read the Erowid vault on the police, so that you don't go around emboldening them for the rest of us!

In re: smoking and driving. The effects of weed on the driver is to make him more cautous and less likely to be a road hazard. Save your sanctimonious downhome logic for your Sundat School Classes and opinionated cohorts.😲
I was driving with a stoner buddy of mine in my varsity days and after a few joints we decided to get some beers.
Although he was driving very carefully, at every red light he stopped about 50 meters from the red light. He was being too careful and in that way he was a road hazard.
Any drug impedes your judgment and you shouldn't be driving etc. Period.
