In re: smoking and driving. The effects of weed on the driver is to make him more cautous and less likely to be a road hazard. Save your sanctimonious downhome logic for your Sundat School Classes and opinionated cohorts.๐ฒ

well you have been lucky stone boy ,
stoned whilst driving really shows how dumb you are, dont you care about other road users.
think of what could happen out on the road ,have a crash, wipe out a family from your stupid actions ,how would you feel then.
D
smoking weed and driving is very dumb indeed and i do not care for people who say it does not impend your driving ability. I wonder how they would react if one of thieir family members had been killed by somebody smoking weed and driving? I have nothing against people having a joint or two but not at putting other people safety at risk.

here's one single test.
I would never take the risk myself though, driving under any influence just seems plain dumb.
Originally posted by bellianProbably the same way I'd react if one of my family members had been killed by somebody taking Aspirin/ and driving. I guess I'd be pretty upset. Cars are killing machines no matter who is behind the wheel. Have you got something against all drivers?

People can speculate and regurgitate all they want, but I know for a fact, sorry FACT! that I'm much less of a danger to others on the road when I'm mozying around at 30 mph after a j, rather than driving at 60+mph without the calming influence.
I NEVER drink and drive, because alcohol makes me feel invincible, and I drive faster. If I felt that driving while stoned put me and others in more danger than driving without, I wouldn't do it.
I hope none of you people giving out about driving after a j ever talk on your mobile phones while driving? Do you smoke in the presence of others? Do you ever go over the speed limit?

Originally posted by AThousandYoungI see you're from the States, but I'll give this information to the UK smokers out there. A police search is only merited under the PACE Act 1984. Stop and Search is covered under Code A. S. 1.3 of Code A allows a police officer with 'reasonable suspicion' to search for prohibited articles, and stolen and offensive weapons. Reasonable suspicion is nebulous in it's concept. As seen in the case of Black v DPP a hunch or a feeling is not enough. If stopped by a police officer there is no obligation to answer their questions, this was seen in Samuels v Police Commissioner of the Metropolis. A police officer can touch you to get your attention as stated in Donnely v Jackman, however if this transcends the norms of behaviour then it is unlawful, Collins v Wilcock.
I consented. I was stoned and tired and like I wrote I have no problem with the police. I told them everything.
I've never in 10 years had police bust me for weed, even when they pulled me over and I had bud in the car and had been smoking. I screwed up due to lack of experience with police actually enforcing that law...
A police officer must have reasonable grounds for performing a search (Code A para 2.2) but they must first question you to minimise the need for a search. Again if this does not happen it is unlawful and any evidence will be admissible.
Finally if you do find yourself the subject of a search listen carefully to what information the police officer gives, you, he is required under S.2.2 of PACE to state the reason for the search, his grounds for the search, his name, his police identification number, his police station and show you his ID badge, if he fails on any of these points as seen in DPP v Avery his evidence will not stand up in a court of law.
I doubt this will be of any use to all you law abiding citizens out there, but you never know when it may come in handy ๐๐๐

And if you believe all that - [which I presume is a wikipedia or similar article] - you'll believe anything. The operative word is reasonable and the cops in the UK are well known to be expert liars, and hence ANYTHING can be made to sound reasonable.
"your honour, he swerved across the road" - OK, that's a reasonable excuse to stop and search him.
"your honour, he staggered as he got out of the car" - reasonable...blah blah blah.
Yeah yeah yeah!!!!

So, they got me. First time in 10+ years of smoking.
I sent this letter to Glendale and Los Angeles Police Departments. Hopefully some police actually read it.
To the Officers of the Glendale and Los Angeles Police Departments,
I am sending you this note because I was pulled over by police from the Glendale Police Department recently for ...[text shortened]... live there. I may post it elsewhere as well.

Don't see too many letters complaining that we should be able to have open liquor in our cars because we are "pursuing happyness".
To anyone who thinks that smoking the doob doesn't affect your ability to drive -
When I worked as a mechanic in the States, a guy brought his car in to be fixed. There was apparently a nasty rattle that had developed over the weekend. I took his car out, drove around over every bump I could find, and managed to find that the source of the rattle was under the driver's side seat. When I removed the seat to find out what was going on, I discovered that there was an aluminium drinks can wedged in beneath it. The can was filled with the stink of joint ends. If his memory had been that weak due to smoking that he paid $150 dollars to have a rattle fixed, how can you say that it doesn't affect your responses? You may drive more slowly, but your reaction time is less. Driving whilst intoxicated, regardless of the substance, is a dumbass idea.
To clarify - I have nothing against smoking weed, and in fact would support it's legalisation, but driving is something that should be taken seriously. It's not just your own abilities you need to consider - what if, with your slowed responses, some idiot cuts in front of you suddenly? I used to drive around stoned all the time when I was nineteen and worked for a pager/cell phone company in AZ delivering pagers and whatnot. I drove about ninety miles per hour everywhere - but now that I'm older and can think back with a clear head, I realise there were loads of times where I dodged disaster by sheer dumb luck. I can remember running red lights because I was thinking deep thoughts while listening to Pink Floyd on the stereo. I can remember having to come to very sudden stops because I would suddenly wake from my daydream and realise traffic had slowed. Some of these could have killed me or others if I hadn't pulled the god of lucky driving out of my ass at every turn.
Drink, smoke, be happy, have fun - but be responsible.
