The 18 Types Of Internet Trolls (Posted: 5 years ago by Tamar Love Grande)
"The first rule of forums, chat rooms and bulletin boards is: DON’T FEED THE TROLLS. If you feed them, they grow. If you starve them, they wither up and die. However, sometimes it’s hard to tell you’ve been trolled until you’re in a keyboard lather. 1. The Rabid Flamer: "This guy likes to make trouble for his own amusement. If nothing particularly nasty is going on, he’ll whip out his flamethrower and burn everyone in his path, especially denizens of parenting or pets chat rooms."
2. The Priggish Grammar Troll: "No matter what the discussion is about, the Priggish Grammar Troll will ignore the argument and pick on the one word you used incorrectly, like “alot” or misuses of “they’re,” “their” and “there.”
3. The Crybaby: "If someone says something mean to the Crybaby, she’ll become hysterical and swear she’s never coming back to the board. Of course, you’ll see her three days later when she slinks back for more abuse. The Crybaby often tells on you to the mods and swears she’s going to get you banned." http://www.smosh.com/smosh-pit/articles/18-types-of-internet-troll

In fact the moderation of these forums is superb - reason being - is that by and large and popularised exceptions noted, the forums generally self moderate. This phenomena does not occur through any organised effort, it occurs through what I will describe as "practical tolerance" and is one of the main reasons I remain as a poster here.
I simply want to be part of an online community that knows where the line of civility is drawn; where people are not needlessly badgered to death. I don't believe i am alone in wanting that.
You see if you take a step back, what is occurring in this thread is an element of self moderation among a small group of regular contributors. Each has an opinion and we argue it out. We don't (usually) go bleating to "Russ" or the moderators complaining that 'he said this to me', or that 'she said that to her'. Yes, there have been the odd complaints to the moderation team but as far as know these are few and far between. I sometime alert a post if I think it is racist or some thing equally nasty. But generally we argue the toss and get on with it.
You blurting your complaint in the middle of this argument has not reduced the number or the tone of the posts; it has just dissipated the topic for a while. An unfortunate by-product of your intervention is that Robbie carrobie will hijack your well meaning comments and adopt them as being support for his in-thread, argument thereby rendering you as being a sort of conscripted troop for his cause.
Generally speaking I think you and your posts are a refreshing addition to the forum and I acknowledge that you are well meaning and considered in your approach. However, arguments like this lengthy one in this thread, have been going on here for years and years and years and it may surprise you to know that those who contribute to these argument do so because they enjoy the cut and thrust of such arguments. Those who don't enjoy it stick to copy/pasting platitudes, starting threads like this one and/or perpetuating the slurry of word association games.
No one is being "badgered to death" or "hounded relentlessly"; if they were, there would action taken by the moderators here, who will act and will ban people on occasion. Grampy Bobby for example who has persistently spammed the forums for years, has been banned more times than most of the regulars put together.
Look back over this thread and consider the tone of the responses from myself and FMF to Robbie carrobie and consider the tone of his responses to us. That a thread ping-pongs on and on for tens of pages is not indicative of "badgering people to death" or "relentless hounding" and use of such emotive language and the serious nature of your claims is itself up for question. They are serious allegations you are making against me and I will defend myself against you. I've been posting here since 2008 and have never been reprimanded by the site administration or mods for the claims you are making - never - not once. In short, if you think you have a case against me I suggest you bring it to the attention of the moderators.

'Returning to the cheese, if you knew a man was going to pelt you with Gorgonzola every time you spoke to him, wouldn't you ignore him, and would you consider yourself rude for doing so?'

Say they are leaving a forum then return?
Nonsense.

Is it good Gorgonzola?
'cause I'm quite partial to a bit of decent blue cheese...
