This is exactly my beef with certain posters who take what was an interesting, or even a potentially interesting thread, and turn it into yet another festival of third degree interrogation. Sometimes they even jump on their victim (who often varies depending on who was the last one to complain about them) before the thread even has a chance to become inter ...[text shortened]... n stay 'spot-on' on topic. Lather, rinse, repeat with every new thread. And yeah, it gets old.

This wasn't one of the threads to which i was referring. (Though it does sometimes happen that a personal argument between 2 posters starts off in such a thread as this and then spills over and consumes other threads that are going on at the same time in other forums, especially the SF).

Originally posted by SuzianneI can only see one thread out of the 60 most recent ones on the SF that ran away with a to and from between several people and that was called "Dive & FMF". Were you disappointed with the way that topic was handled? As for the GF, presumably you agree that any high volume of posting and community animation, be it serious, be it humorous, be it whatever, is to be welcomed, right?

Originally posted by SuziannePots and kettles I think. You regularly just turn up in a thread take a swipe at a couple of the thread contributors (who are not in your in group) and then disappear for a day or two. Perhaps if you started a few threads of interest, made comments of interest and resisted the urge to lash out at those YOU don't like just for the sake of it, you may be in a better position to criticise.

This exchange between Robbie, FMF and myself for example have you been following it? Do you understand the juxtaposition of the combatatants, do you realise what Robbie carrobie is being questioned about an it's wider implications about his much self-publicised stance on pacifism, the handling of discovered sexual offenses in his religion's leadership? Probably not, because you haven't been following the thread have you?
This is a public forum, anyone can start new threads, contribute to threads they are interested in, begin new threads on similar or related topics, ignore threads they don't like, ignore posters they don't like.
This thread is about "something", you may not like it but we are arguing over "something", you are arguing over "nothing". Do you get that?
Edit: probably not, just thumb this post down (along with all my other ones and all FMFs) and feel satisfied that you have made a contribution.

I am however not looking to have a message board that is 'exactly the way i want it.' (That sounds perfectly dreadful). I simply want to be part of an online community that knows where the line of civility is drawn; where people are not needlessly badgered to death. I don't believe i am alone in wanting that.
I think the term 'troll' is used way too much at RHP and can't actually think of a single individual here who i would label as such. (That's probably just down to my own interpretation of the word 'troll' which i equate with those sick individuals who post comments on memorial sites or hound people to suicide etc). Sure, there are annoying people here who perhaps spam the same nonsense ad infinitum, but i wouldn't qualify them as trolls,

Originally posted by Ghost of a DukeNeither do I. Different threads attract different interactions. If I don't like a thread, I don't worry about it. If a thread peters out, so be it. If people whose posts I enjoy more than others don't post, that's life. There are other threads. Or one can start threads. The way people behave and interact is interesting to varying degrees. Even people trying to police the forum or to inhibit aspects of it that they don't like, they can be interesting. But if's not interesting, it's easy to ignore.
