Originally posted by SuzianneIf you have a army consisting of, say, Saracen Guards (31% attack, 3 HP) and Muslim Mounted Archers (74% attack, 1.3 HP), you'd want to put the Saracen Guards in the 1st rank to absorb the damage from the enemy, while you keep the Mounted Archers in the 2nd rank, so they're protected from any damage (for a while) and they can keep dishing out the heavy punishment to the enemy.
That's an interesting viewpoint. From what I understand, though, isn't it better to stick the units with the most hitpoints up front to absorb the big damage, while keeping everything else back to mop up the remainders?
OKay, I'm a bit confused. I want to do the following:
1) Move some of the troops from my garrison into another province to join forces already there - Do I need to create a new unit put them into and then march them, or can I just transfer them straight to the other army?
2) If I have units coming to join an army from other provinces (by the methods above), do the arriving units still have their full MP quota?
3) If so, can I order the army already in this province to attack another province, safe in the knowledge that the tranfserring troops will join the army prior to its march into the hostile province?
4) Is there anyway to make an army wait for the first phase so that troops may join it, before moving on to a neighbouring province?
Cheers
Originally posted by Starrman1. Garrisons can't move, so you need to create a new mobile unit (which doesn't use MPs) and then march them over. Unless there is another unit within the same province when you can just transfer them.

2. If they move to join up with another unit, they will use MPs. But if they join another unit, then that unit's MPs apply.
3. You might need to tell the main army to wait first. Check your move orders on the Main Plans button.

1. troops can never move on their own. You must issue all marching orders to army units. This means to move troops out of a garrison, you must create a new army in that province and transfer the troops from the garrison to the army. You may then move the army at your discretion. If there is an already existing army that starts the turn in the same province as the garrison then you may transfer troops from the garrison into it. You may never transfer troops from a garrison into an army that is in a different province.
2. All troop transfers must occur withing the same province. You can never transfer troops between armies or garrisons that do not start the turn in the same province.
3. As all transfers must occur before movement, within the same province, the point is moot.
4. Yes. You may issue orders for an army to "Hold Position" for one phase so that other units may catch up to it. Holding Position once does not cost you any movement points. Doing so twice in a row will cost you one movement point.

From here you can view the individuals in this troop, and change the rank. I don't have the game here at work, but I think that is how you do it or good enough info to let you know where you need to start looking to change these settings.

Movement: Hold Position
When you issue marching orders to one of your armies you will see a list of all the provinces that army is eligible to march into. You will also see an option called "hold position." Now, you may very well ask, why would anyone issue an order to hold position? The answer is that you use this option to insure your various ar ...[text shortened]... t cost you a MP if you do it once. If you do it two consective phases it will cost you one MP.
