@ghost-of-a-duke saidCould be, wouldn't be the first post I've had removed. I didn't get a note on it, so of no concern to me. You are probably the only one even noticed it. No one really cares goad. 😉
Must have been zapped by the mods then. (You can still see my reply to the missing post on page 28, 4 posts down).
I guess the mods didn't like you claiming superiority over other posters due to the time you have been on the site.

@very-rusty saidBanned from the forums dickwad! Ten subs for you banned from the forums is my offer.
I've already paid more than 10 subs in years I've been here, waiting to hear from the owner on a counter offer...

After some doubts and false starts, I now have two stories done except for a little tightening of the bolts.
One of them I only started sketching out this morning at about 2 or 3 AM with the vaguest of notions.
Also, I have found VSCode (Visual Studio Code) to be a compatible text editor for fiction writing (at least for me).
I added a couple of color themes, a spellchecker, word-counter, and an extension (Local History) that preserves previous drafts with a timestamped filename every time I save a document.
What apps are other people using to write? (I understand that some might be writing in longhand or using a typewriter until the final draft.)
Looking forward to a splendid banquet of spookiness in July. 🙂
@caesar-salad saidHave you read the competition instructions?
I am really just posting
to make sure line breaks still work
within italics tags in case
I want to include a couplet
or quatrain in a story
@caesar-salad saidformatting is as important as content...

@rookie54 saidYes, and of course I am thinking of old-fashioned stories that quote some lines from another author before the story begins.

Epigraph -- that's it (had to look it up to refresh my memory).
So yes, line breaks within italics tags do work, in case anyone needs to know, for an epigraph or something to be included mid-story.
This is nice. I haven't really done any creative work other than cooking and living for years, and no writing for decades, other than a couple lines at a time on an Exquisite Corpse (continue-the-story) site.
It's like preparing gifts to leave under the (dark and looming) tree, hoping they bring a little delight. Looking forward to unwrapping the other presents! For me this will be like Hallowe'en in July.
On a vaguely related note, one of the little highlights of my life was to exchange a few words with Ramsey Campbell on the Shocklines Forum when that was active.
Sincerely,
Cousin Mandibles Addams

@divegeester saidBut they will be posted to the forums by Ponderable, and so if there is forum formatting in the submission, it will show up formatted when posted here. I'm betting he won't change anything in the submitted stories, so forum formatting should still come through.
The story is to be sent via email and not posted directly into the forum. How is formatting as important as content anyway?
@divegeester saidFrom a certain point of view, existence itself is all about the formatting, is it not? 😉

As above, so below; as within, so without.
Further to what @Suzianne explained, the forum tags for italics and bold are just text characters, so could be included in a submission even if sent by email:
